South Coyote Buttes, so much colour to see, from the walls of the rock formations, and the amount of vegatation growing in the sandy areas around.

Coyote Buttes is actually located in the Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness area, straddling and south of the Utah-Arizona border. The wilderness area is about 10 miles west of Page, Arizona. It is under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management. Access is strictly controlled and you can only enter the area with advanced reservation and by permit. The number of people allowed into the area is strictly limited.

You have to be a hiker to reach this area. There is no road access except at the southern tip of Coyote Buttes South and this access requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Hello Derek! This stone is so exciting and fascinating that I really think that you chose well to go into a little more detail. I have just returned from this part of the world but a little more further up in the Utah/Colorado area so I really appreciate when "stone" comes up. I find your composition is really special with the green plants hanging in, diagonal in the the lower part, this I find adds an artistic touch. Very good work! Have a great weekend, working on stone maybe???? Barbara.

Wonderful detail, Derek. I love such textures and colors on rock surfaces. Even better, knowing that this is not accessible by road. Nice inclusion of the green Nature in FG - amazing how they survive and grow in these places...

ricardo

Hi Derek,
a very interesting view you are showing here. I like your composition especially for the contrast between well visible, geological layers and the green plants in foreground.
Thanks for sharing
Günther

Derek,
A nice detail - one of the 40,000 you took no doubt!!! ;) - I know, it's so difficult to stop - and why should you? I'm sure such shots must be quite mysterious to those unfamiliar with the area - so I'm amused to see Barbara - returning from her Western excersion, finding an enthusiasm for this "genre". Good to see.
Regards
colin

Wonderful close detail of the rock patterns showing a wide range of colour tones. The composition with some framing by the plants works very well.

Hi Derek,
a very nice shot! The framing with the plants to the right of the shot is great, they are very important fot the whole composition. Nice close up view with amazing details thanks to the great quality of your 5D. Very nice!

Take care
Mark
