Water Steps into Rapids
St. Louis River
Jay Cooke State Park
Carlton, Minnesota
Jay Cooke State Park is just south of Duluth near the small town of Carlton. The park is centered around a particularly dramatic section of the St. Louis River.
This park is well known for hiking .. it has a famous swinging bridge over the river .. that Andrew and I braved on our first trip here .. no pictures though .. to busy .. maybe one of these times.
Although we didn't see much this park is also well known for wildlife .. bear, timber wolf, deer, the rare pileated woodpecker ..
I was surprised to learn that this area was an active part of the French fur trade as early as the 18th century.
The park was established in 1915 with land donated by the St. Louis Power company.

Nice shot of these rapids with this long exposure time. Looks like the water flows really fast.

Hello John,
Your long exposure has really softened the water into a smooth, silky, continuous flow, without the normal splashing and whirling of rapids!
I love the way the water is descending from small outlets, at right angles to the main flow of water.
Good details of the rocks on the the far bank.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi John
I like the shot, the speed shutter is good and the water came out with nice effect. I guess the POV is not the best, or may be it it the best POV you can do at that place, but to me the falls feel too little, not much perspective. But still the shot is enjoyable and with good technique
cheers

Hello John,
splendid the view of the rocks and the running water that make the scene so chilly for me in Athens with the temperature to climb in 38C.I like the food management of the pause of the running water that make its surface like silk.Well done.

Hi John,
The slower shutter speed created a nice motion effect on the waters giving dynamism to the scene. Very good contrast ... the white rapids against the dark rocks. Well captured and composed with good resulting image quality! tfs and have a nice weekend.

I think you know by now how I love the slow shutter effect on moving water. The contrast between that and the pin-sharp rocks is so satisfying. For me I think the staring role has to go to the water emerging through where the rocks are split. Excellent shot

Hi John,
this has a great dynamic impression by the 1/3 second and the water speed. As the motion directions of the water are different, this is very impressive. Fine choice of framing.

Hi John,
I can hear the roar of these tremendous rapids as they pour over the well worn rock.
Lovely milky slow exposure effect that contrast nicely with the lush green growth.

Hi dear John
Something missing here ... Sound of the water fall :)
Interesting long exposure for giving a nice feel of water movement.
Take care.
