| Located at 900 Exposition Blvd. in Los Angeles, the Natural History Museum of LA County is home to one of the world's most extensive collections of natural and cultural history. It's the largest natural and historical museum in the Western US and is also an active research center; currently, the restoration of a T-Rex skeleton is underway, and will be completed in 2011. The museum was first opened to the public in 1913, so the building is also quite impressive. There are three floors devoted to the various exhibits, including the towering Dueling Dinosaurs on the ground floor from which the figure in the photo draws inspiration. There are also permanent halls that feature dioramas of African and American mammals, dinosaur fossils, marine mammals, Pre-Columbian culture and gems and minerals. There are more than 35 million specimens and artifacts in the museum, covering 4.5 billion years of history. |
