The Location

A typical view along Lake Michigan in Manistee County, Michigan. This is just off the road near Bar Lake between Onekema and Manistee. These pristine sandy shores are such a contrast to the rocky shores of England upon which I spend most of my time.

The Image

Since I know you love when I go all "artsy-fartsy" and I can't get enough single digit feedback days... :)

I love the period of transition between day and night on either end of the day. This is a celebration of that period and an experiment with visual balance and moving the eye around the image frame. The subject and mood lent themselves well to an abstract approach. Thanks in advance to the three people who will offer feedback. Only playin'... ;)

Also used a 2-stop grad on the sky.

Cheers!

Bob G.

Hi Bob!
You recieved a nice effect with the 8 seconds.Great POV and good depth, too.Wonderful blue tones and I like how they turn into orange at the horizon.
Regards,leo

Bob,
Well here's one for starters. Your image has popped on-line at the very moment I logged on.
"Balance" is certainly a pretty good title for this one - and (tediously as ever! - I jest) you've got your angles and balances absolutely spot on, making oh so much from - in many respects - oh so little. Maybe that's your problem Bob - you're posting images that are so perfectly balanced and well realised these days that no-one can think of anything to say other than WOW! Try posting a few rubbish shots for a better response!
Actually, I've taken so long writing this that you'll probably have several other comments by the time I'm finished - and I'm not finished yet!
Although you describe this one as "a typical image" I'm not sure it is that really - not a cliche - it would need and an old post or a few rocks in the foreground for that. This one has a far more minimalist sensibility.
Regards
Colin

Bonjour Bob

I'm not really into landscapes but I can't help commenting about this soothing picture. It's the faustian "now suspend the time and make it last forever" hour.
You can watch it for hours, I guess it'd heal everything wrong in your mind. This picture should be funded by the National Health service from any country :D

Impressive twilight seascape,Contrast of sunset color and overall blue tone of the photo created attractive focal point,Sharpness support dept and well story.Good work,TFS.

Helo Bob
Very elegante shot and the balance is on place
Cery well done
Thanks for sharing
Cheers,Braca

Hello Bob

Looks so relaxing, maybe you named wrong the photograph ;-)

Love the soft light...soft light blue,soft orange,the wave,the little ripples.Perhaps that`s the "balance".It`s a beautiful seascape.

My kind regards

Hi Bob,
a nice moody picture, I like the pastel tone of this lonely landscape without any subject, maybe appropriate here.
regards,didier

Hi Bob,

Wonderful softness and those shades in the foreground, in the waterflow over the sand is really nice. I don't think it's all that artsy-fartsy hahaha.

Greetings,
Dennis

Hi Bob,
Hard to make a more simple shot. But hard to make a more beautiful one ! A perfectly well balanced composition, very quiet atmosphere. The colours are wonderful. I love the graphical aspect of the tide on the sand.
Regards,
Olivier

Hi Bob,
very sensible, very minimalistic. Pure beauty. I think this is a small river coming from the left, the borderline between it and the lake is wonderful.
To mention also the overall sharpness with F16 and the low POV.
Cheers Chris

Hi Bob,

After your 'confident' notes I am really really trting to find somethig wrong with your image. But I can't. Can't even find any dust!! The simple ones are usually the best, and you;ve doneit again. Go on, post a rubbish one soon so we can pan it:-)

Hi Bob,
An inspirational shot (at least I got inspired to try this), the composition is just perfect. Was this taken just before sunrise? Lovely soft light, the pink tones are superb. Great depth too.

Shaeri

Hi Bob.

Beautiful 8 seconds for this photo. Really a magic landscape and a superb photo.

Well done.

G'day Bob!

Bugger - he's done it again! Can't just be the camera gear he uses, or the location and time of day: maybe he really does know what he's doing, "artsy-fartsy" included!

(By the way, Bob - bloody terrific shot, mate!)

Best wishes,
Jeff
