Christmas Meadows, Uinta Mountains, Utah. This lovely meadow is one of the highlights of the areas available to those who don't want to backpack into the more remote (and beautiful) portions of the Uinta wilderness. My wife and some friends went to the Uintas for a day trip, and it turned out to be one of our favorite trips of the summer.

The Uintas are the highest mountain range in Utah, with most of the peaks taller than 11,000 feet. The pinnacle of the Uinta range is King's Peak, the highest point in Utah at 13,528 feet. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to King's Peak, as it's only accessible via a 33-mile roundtrip backpacking expedition.

We came to this area to try to hike to Ostler Lake, about an 8-mile roundtrip hike to a lake nestled beneath Ostler Peak in the distance. The trail forks several times, so we ended up taking a turn towards the much more remote Middle Basin. After about 4.5 miles, we turned around and made the 4.5 mile trek back. But it was a fun hike nonetheless.

This spot is about 100 m off the road, and is apparently absolutely beautiful in the early morning and evening. As it was, I had to content myself with a 4 pm picture, as no one wanted to hang around here for three or four hours. Oh well.

Hello Clark, this is a lovely classic shot. I would even go so far as to make it black and white like an Ansel Adams landscape shot. You've got all the elements, mountain, river, clouds and land...the light is good too. Rgds, Leilani

Good viewpoint...strong colours...It's a very nice landscape photo...
Well done

Hi Clark,
Splendid snap! The vastness of the meadow, the bending rivulet, the green grassy expanse - a treat to watch.

Hi Clark,
Never been there, but the place looks wonderful. Your crop and framing makes it even more interesting. Although the image lacks a bit of ultimate sharpness, it's the composition what pulled my eye to this...i like it.
Regards, Henk

Hi Clark,
Beautiful shot and very well composed. I like how the view takes us nearly around the bend in the river. Well saturated and natural colors too. The G2 is a fine camera and as as capable a camera as the photographer behide it, as you've shown us. I still use my G2 on occasion and still keep it in my camera bag.
