sunrise at south coyote buttes, there is a small campsite area nearby, about 20 minutes walk away, so that you can get here for first light, otherwsie it would be a very early start from either Page or Kanab (2 nearest towns) and around 2 hours drive away, and don't forget you will need permits for South Coyote Buttes.

Hi Derek,
Wonderful, splendid and impressive shot very well captured at the marvelous moment that is the sunset. Good POV and framing. Lights, colors and contrasts are superbs. Well done. Best regards, Consuelo

It's a very good light...

Hi Derek,
A beautiful location bathing in beautiful light. I have never been to the Buttes, but seeing this the place looks very inviting to go there some day. You did a great job here with light and composition, really good work.
Regards, Henk

It was certainly worth being there at sunrise for this wonderful light. I like the way you composed the image so perspective carries the eye easily from one butte to the other. The inclusion of the yellow plant in the foreground also works well. Where the shadow ends at the base of the first butte gives an amazing effect which looks as if the butte is levitating. Good work

Derek,
Wonderful shot. Amazing landscape.
I certainly agree with feather regarding the bush, which is essential in balancing the light in this shot.
And we really do get the impression of the sun rolling down over the peaks of this landscape for the first time.
A bit 2001, perhaps.

Regards
Colin

Derek,
the Buttes are my next dream. Maybe Spring 2009 and I'm looking very attentively into your posts of this area to get additional inspirations. Wonderful warm and golden light that you got agaisnt the buttes and the bush in the foreground. Great composition!
Peter

Hi Derek, I was interested to see that others liked the inclusion of the bush in the FG. My thoughts were that it would have been better either with more of the bush or left out completely. As it is I find it a little distracting. Not sure what the white(ish) object is at the bottom RHS. If possible removing that would also have improved it. Minor thing, there are a handful of dust spots in the sky. I really like the colours and the contrast of the deep red/orange with the early morning sky. cheers, Steve
