Thru "God's Window" you can see "The Sky in the Soul of the Tree" with "The Lord" extending a "Helping Hand" so that even the smallest among us can see.

The Rest of the Story:

I first saw this tree in December while working Bald Eagles. I could not get it out of my head. Looked at it often and thought about it until early March. Finally took some frames in early March, they were not very good, but I thought the potential was there If I could just figure it out.

I finally e-mailed one of the early frames to a very good photographer friend of mine, for his thoughts. He gave me several ideas and he too, really did like the potential.

On March 22, 2008, My wife was driving and I was working Sandhill Cranes, I had taken 60-70 frames and knew there were 2-3 in the camera that were, ok. I have learned that when I know there is good potential in the camera to keep taking shots it will be a good day. I suggested we stop by the tree on the way home and I would try another group of shots.

When I got the frames on the computer, the cranes were there that I expected but also several good tree frames. I picked out this frame and studied it for some time and finally sent it to my photographer friend. I had introduced it to him as "Just a Hole
in a Tree". I got it back "Quickly" with only 2 words in Big Block Print - "BE BOLD!!". I knew now I had a starting point for developing the potential of the tree.

Just one problem remained - "A Title". After studying for another week I finally ask a group of local photography friends to help name the image and the above is the results.

Hi Larry

Good use of the gnarled, old, dead tree as a framing device on the bg with a marvelous blue sky. Nice textured lighting, on the grey wood. Tfs!

Hello!
Interesting old, dead tree, nice colors and good sharpness.
Greetings

Hi Larry.
This is a very creative composition. A nice contrast of colours. Well cropped image to make the subject very attractive and interesting. Nice POV. Very appropriate title for this shot. Great exciting shot. Well done. Thanks for sharing.
Greetings.
Mirek

Larry,
Indeed, clearly a lot of potential here. I'm sure you could work a whole series - maybe a hole series - from this subject!

I'm fascinated by your note. You're clearly someone who values the opinions of others. It interests me, I think, because I'm somewhat the opposite - more "this is what I've done, make of it what you will."

What I do share with you, however, is an appreciation, maybe even a little reverence for such unheralded treasures.

Regards
colin
