after exhausting my little collection of photos from Riga (at least for now) I decided to revisit the folders from this winter, and suddenly remembered that I always wanted to create a theme about the water mill in Leverett, Massachusetts. it's one of those places with quiet charm that makes you want to come back again and again, and every time you notice something you did not see before. me and Kristaps have been there at least 6 times (don't ask him what happened to his car after after one of those visits) and I know that Greg keeps a watchful eye on the reconstruction of the mill (see theme for all photos).

--------
about the photo - it was a cold Sunday in February when we decided to check what happened to the frozen waterfall at the mill. I'm not happy with my photos from the waterfall itself, but I quite like this abstract scene showing the small pond above it with the new roof of the mill reflecting in the calm water.

Hi Kristine,
I am trying not to look at or think about winter right now since spring has finally arrived here, but this lovely photo caught my attention and I had to comment. The sharpness is so good, the composition excellent, and the kind of 'abstract' feel about it as you say, is very effective.
Nice, albeit cold, scene!
Sarah :)

Hello Kristine

The way you used the reflection to frame your image is really great. The warm colors of the inverted mill stand out against the cold and frozen water.
The layer of snow at he foreground is very well seen and gives some relief.
Very nice composition.

Regards,
Karine

Hi Kristine
This is a lovely winter capture from Leverett. I like the front stripe of snow and the plants in the dark middle water and connecting to the background reflection. The reflection is very good together with thr strong colors you have used
compliments
Argiris

Kristine,
Very pleasant winter catch.
Colors are great, and I like the light you caught on the FG.
Regards,
JB.

Hi Kristine although your picture is nice, its a bit confusing I'd prefer a wider view with more air at the top. Is this ice or water?

Regards
Stelios

Kristine, this is a really fine shot, especially knowing where and what it is. Very nicely done with the floating ice/snow in the mill pond, great color too.

Greg

Hi Kristine, beautiful photo of the winter that is leaving us. I love the composition just showing the relfection in the water and it is very nice the contrast of the very blue water against the white snow. I'm actually happy that the winter is going, but winter photos are always nice, just as photos!! :)
I stole the way you frame the photos for my photo today, I hope you don't mind.
Keep posting
Regards

Daniel

hey there :))

should i, or shoud i not, m!? put in a small workshop with the artist making this very shot? ;) i'll think on it. there is still time today ;))

love how you have handled the reflections here. that polarizer of YOURS is doing a great job indeed. love the warmth of light too: goes well with the natural color of the wooden wall in the reflection. interesting: Karine's observation about the snow. it does bring a sense of relief in this composition.

hugs :))
k.

Hi Kristine,
You are so talented! You did a great job of composition and the clearly defined branches work great with the inverted old mill and the sprinkling of ice on the surface of the river. You have a great eye and the photographic skills to go along with it. This is great work!

The composition, colours, the mood and idea in general are great, Kristine. I really like this combination of dark blue and warm brownish tones. The curvy snow line adds even more to the abstract feeling of the image. I do wish the plants were a bit more...hm...beautiful, at least smaller. Next time make Kristaps remove the unnecessary branches! ;p

Marija

Hello Kristine,
this place has been blessed by your presence, you catched a splendid color palette, the branches seem suspended in a dream between blue and gold. A successful study in silhouette , space and reflections. A truly stunning image. My sincere congratulations.
Take care,
Stella

Hello Kristine,

J'aime bien le contraste entre l'eau sombre, la neige, et ce bout de plante qui se détache vraiment bien.
Belle image.
Marie

Ciao Kristine ,

The frame your image is really great.
good job
Giorgio

Hi Kristine,
like Stannie already pointed out : you have a great eye and great photographic skills.
Let me add one more thing : I really like your taste for unusual compositions. I never get bored when I pass by. Which is, in a general way of speaking, one of my absolute priorities in life...
Lovely!
Have a great weekend,
Fulvio.

Hi, Kristine -

Yes, an interesting abstract using real elements only. It does require a minute of study, but it rewards the viewer who does so. The low slanting sunlight warms a cold scene.

Best,
Dan

Hi, Kristine!
Poetic shot, a great American atmosphere...
Change, We can believe in ? ;-)

Un abbraccio

Hi Kristine,
Wonderfully imaginative shot of the old mill making a striking peaceful reflection in the icy cold river. Exceptionally clear colors with excellent sharpness and detail to this lovely image.
Regards, Tom

Hi Kristine,
I like the abstract nature of this shot, and the detail of the plants in the foreground coming out of the strip of white snow is great. The rippled reflection is well seen and composed, all round a nice shot.

Hello Kristine
An image where the FG is as arresting as the BG. The snow & moreso the small shrub with the last few autumn leaves glowing in the nice light, against the backdrop of the blue part of the water. The reflections are too interesting because of the snow on the roof & the mild disturbance in the water. Well seen, well composed & well captured
Best Regards
Angshuman
PS : Good WS by Kristaps with you all decked in fur!

Hi Kristine,
The colors of the water and the reflection are really very beautiful, but also the composition with the snow which makes a beautiful contrast and spices enlightened by the sun which remind me plants painted in gold which we put in bouquets with Christmas.
Congratulations, friendly
Diane
