Photographer’s Note
These are the dunes near Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley. Sometimes one must search a bit there for a location free of footprints, but it's worthwhile once that's found.
This was taken during my mini-TE meeting with Peter Boehringer (pboehringer) last month. Thanks to Peter for the loan of his grad ND for this shot.

Hi Ken,
Very nice light and colors. You've done a good job keeping detail in the foreground to show off those great lines in the dunes and the twisted form of the Juniper.
Well done Ken.

Hi Ken;
Simplistic elements combined with good composition has really made for very strong image. Sharpness and color seem to be spot on, however I personally think the levels could use a slight tweaking to the highlights. The overall forground is a bit dark for my personal taste.
I'll try and post a workshop when I get home from work.
Cheers Ken,
- Dan

At first glance I thought this was a wave, but now I see that it is a sand dune, turned blue by the twilight. Good composition, using the tree to add some interest to the landscape. Nice texture visible in the dune too, however the image is a little bit dark. Nice work!

Ken,
I can see how my ND grad filter helped you out here ;-)
You really were able to find a spot that expresses the loss of life and complete abscence of any human traces. The minimalistic approach of the dead tree agianst the soft border of the dune against the rugged mountains in the background provides great depth.

Very strong, simple colors you have here. Perfectly balanced and I like the sense of isolation it gives the wood.
