Awesome Peter, what a huge range of colors for such an arid place and the pattern in the clouds really makes it a fantastic shot.
Greg
Hi Peter and welcome back. The colour range is something amazing here, enhancing even more the beautiful compo with the green bush leading the eye up towards the amazing rocks well contrasted by the blue sky. Now, please don't get me wrong..I might be tired, I might need some sleep but I see good details in the fg which I don't see in the bg..like a lack of sharpness..does it makes any sense? I'm 100% sure this depends on the lens which is critical to use at 18mm plus you had to use a high f/number which is not the best compromise for the little Nikkor lens. But I might be totally wrong, if so I'm sorry.
Anyway..is good to see you back with one of the classic Peter Boehringer production..a trademark! ;o)
Regards,
Igor
Peter,

Wow, that's a really wild formation there! The contrast between the red/orange rocks and the blue sky is incredible. I like the way you used that plant in the foreground too, because it really helps to balance the photo and anchor it. Great work!

Hi Peter,
It's a well managed composition, with vertical as the finest space to include the green bush, the somewhat dry land, the red rocks and the deep blue sky.
A good document of the place, true.
Well, waiting for more shots from here, it's interesting, dear friend.

Hi Peter,
Great desert landscape. Signs of erosion look quite interesting on red rock faces. Vertical framing very much your style with strong foreground. Good colours.
I think you gave enough hints on what you mean by movement.
Kari
Hi Peter,
Hope you had a nice trip. Seeing this new fresh entry it seems you had. What me always attracked to the US were these wonderful deep blue skies, for me amazing when i saw them the first time and still i love to see them. The high clouds give you even some more in this very nice composed image. The red rocks bring even more contrast in the image and although the composition is classic (glad you left some open space at the right), i like it a lot.
Because you are doing mainly landscapes, any thoughts about that 12-24m/m beauty?
Regards, Henk

Excellent depth in this luminous landscape, the light is very well used for the fg bush, the bg is gorgeous with these cliffs and the sky...
Cheers

hi Peter,
nice image, good foreground. the background seems not that sharp, despite of f/22, but maybe it is due to f/22, i guess with your lens, the sharpness falls down beyond f/11, no?
and yes, the 12-24 would be nice for you, maybe I should sell you mine when I'll buy (let's dream) the D3 with the 14-24...

Hi Peter
I like your theme title as there is lots of movement to photograph in Death Valley and the surrounding areas. It is a relatively young area geologically speaking and presents lots of photographic opportunities. There are nice layers of textures and colours here and the tiliting rocks make for an interesting subject.

You are definitely developing a clear "Boehringer" style. Vertical format, lots of foreground interest and an amazing rock formation. I wonder how many millions of years it took for the piece of rock to attain that position. Well done

Geologically speaking the sand bars with some argillaceous events is fabulous. A feast to my eyes, I would say. Thanks for that.
For the photo a single word is enough: magnificent!

Saudumm. So schoen hier draussen! Mit Abendgruss ... Barbara.

Hi Peter
Your chocolate eggs melted and ours would have frozen if we'd been outdoors. What a contrast !
The curious formations stand out really well against the nicely polarized sky. You've made good use of the bush to add colour contrast and depth.

Olá Peter,
A return to the great North American landscapes that inspire you so much and with which you are able to produce these amazing photos... I don't know what to say, as it looks perfect to me in every aspect.
Maybe I am influenced by what Henk wrote, but I also wonder if you wouldn't get much pleasure (and results also) by using wider angle lenses.
Um abraço, José.
Hi Peter, the composition on this one is awesome, with the scrub up front and the red rock in front of that great sky. I like the cloud detail you've picked up in this one. Colour is good, I thought it might use a little more contrast so I played a bit in the sandbox to see if we could come up with another option for you.
Thanks, John

I like the vertical composition very much. The green plant really stands out in the desert landscape. The orange rocks compliment the blue sky, or visa-versa. You've captured the movement of the earth very well here ;-)

Hello Peter,
I have always been curious as to what make the rock red in this canyon. Perhaps I should look it up in Wikipedia. The views are very nice with the high cliffs dominating the background. Good depth and interesting soft clouds in the background. Thanks Peter.

Hello Peter -
After seeing this image and composition I think mine is pretty lame. I will post it sometime in the future. I like that you incorporated a FG element and gave some perspective and FG interest to show the great expanse of this rock formation. Very early morning and some nice shadows and contrast. Every thing is spot on the money. Bravo!!
Thank you for sharing.

Hello Peter,
This one caught my attention straight away. I like the contrasting primary colours, the nicely angled light and shadows and the strong sense of movement up through the picture. The green bush is an effective foreground subject and the Red Rock a very impressive backdrop against that deep blue sky. Strange that such a fantastic location should have been so neglected on TE.
I see from some of the other critiques that you've been having some issues with sharpness with your 18-55 mm lens (not that it seems particularly noticeable here). I'm not sure how the 18-55 performs for landscapes but I must say I've been pleased with my 12-24 mm, which is about as close as you can get to the classic 20 mm prime lens for film cameras. Digital is strange though and in a way seems less predictable than film cameras used to be, particularly in terms of lens-body combination.

Hello Peter
The idea of your title was lost in me till I read about halfway through your note. I might not be wrong in saying that you have developed a strong style of your own as far as landscapes are concerned...most of your photographs are in vertical format (not so common in my humble opinion & limited knowledge, for landscapes), lots of FG interest, almost leading us in with shrubs or hedges & the clear blue sky. The rocks here are indeed amazing with their vertical shear faces & the capping of red mineral deposits. An excellent shot indeed!
