Never Summer Sunset

Trail Ridge Road
Rocky Mountain National Park

I was going through some shots of last summer .. to see what I missed posting .. this one I hadn't posted earlier since I had done a panorama of these mountains before sunset ...this shot happened a few minutes later ...on a stormy evening on Trail ridge ..

Trail Ridge road is one of the premier attractions of RMNP. Eight miles of the road are above 11,000 feet (3,353 meters) in elevation. It is a stunning drive. There are numerous hiking trails on Trail Ridge as well. Potential hikers need to take into account the altitude and the fact that thunderstorms arrive most afternoons and evenings ... above the tree line is not a fun place to be in a thunderstorm.

The Never Summer Mountains are the primary range of the wilder West side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The West side does not have as many of the primary attractions as the East .. (with some notable exceptions like the headwaters of the Colorado river) ... The West side is also only accessible via Trail Ridge Road in the summer and early fall. Winter access demands lengthy looping detours from Denver or the other Front Range cities.
