Chindi...
It means "Ghost" in Navajo language.
Now, this is a more comprehensive late afternoon view (see my previous posting "Chief Pony That Walks") of my absolutely favorite spot in Monument Valley, the Heart of the great Navajo Nation.
As I've been told, the Navajo people outline life in a most unique way, that's to say : the thinking process to the east, the planning process to the south, the living/action process to the west, and the satisfaction/evaluation process to the north.
Everything they do is strictly clockwise, they never go backwards, and the four mountains setting the boundaries of Navajoland (Mt. Blanca in the east, Mt. Taylor in the south, San Francisco Peaks in the west, and Mt. Hesperus in the north) are sacred to them.
Another interesting thing : toward the later half of WW2, the Germans were able to intercept and break many of the U.S. codes used to convey secret plans and troop movements. The ONLY codes the Nazis NEVER EVER broke were the ones using the Navajo language!

HI Fulvio,
wow what an amazing view. Great POV and excellent capture. I love the colour tones of the rock! Fantastic!
hat off and a bow to you!
Thanks for sharing

Ciao, Fulvio,
another of these breathtaking shots. I love that sense of space and the color is simply wonderful. Beautifully done with that good light on the foreground and rocks and that dark blue sky backing it up. Incredible detail even in the far cliffs. This is marvelous! Many thanks and warmest wishes,
Shelly

hey, fulvio

signature sky!!! yes!!! :) thanks for sharing this sight, friend. fantastic light and luminence. love it! and the note is a treat too.

cheers,
kristaps

Fantastic amount of detail with richly saturated colours which are generally not overdone. My one reservation is the darkness of the sky. I'm guessing that a polariser was used as that would certainly have helped with the saturation in other areas. Assuming I'm right I just think it was slightly overdone.
Stunning landscape anyway.

Hi fulvio,

ah, I see we're back on Mars (do they have beer coolers there? they better, right?)
another excellent shot, I like how you've chosen more horizontal format, the diagonal composition works really well with that and creates a strog feeling of distance. and I'm not talking about the colours, cannot stop admiring those rich reds, as usual.
cheers, TGIF!!!

Ciao buddy fulvio!
Another excellent shot of this mighty place as good as ever!
the rocks really stands out against the darker sky with good clarity, awesome colour and details
many thanks for the notes and have a wonderful weekend also have beer from me, hihi!
greeting
Tony

Hello, Fulvio -

Another great shot of the SW, with good use of diagonals; the curve on the right keeps the image from being evenly split. I think you overdid the shadows in center left, though.

As far as I know, the code talkers were only used in the Pacific theater of war, but the Japanese never broke the codes, either.

Regards,
Dan

Hello Fulvio,
I like the way that you work a scene, zooming in and out and changing from the vertical format and then to the horizontal. This is the way that the pros do it and I can see no better approach than this one. It has worked for decades and it will work for decades to come. By changing the format and zooming out from your prevoius post you created a completely different POV and feeling to this landscape. This looks very much like a Velvia shot and I like it very much. Beautiful panoramic southwestern grand landscape photograph!
Stan

Great color and composition. Good foreground interest with the added vegetation.

I suppose that center rock formation has a name but I have no idea what it is.

I think it interesting that even though this is a Navajo national park that Navajo families live there like homesteaders scattered throughout the park. In fact, though not visible in this composition, there is a set of dwellings in a ranch-like grouping between the middle pinnacles and the massive monolithic rock on the right. What a great place that would be to live.

Hallo Fulvio,

Ciao, Fulvio,
A nice scenrery with those mighty rocks!
This sky contrasting to the rocks' colour is very interesting.
No wonder why my imagination saw figures "planted" in these rocks:)
This sight has a cosmic effect on the viewer due to the panoramic scale of the place.
I'll be back soon.
Take care
TFS
Valerka:)

Hi Fulvio
The colours are superb and the detail in the rock has been well captured. have you tried a conversion to B&W?
Well done.
Phil

Ciao Fulvio ,
questa volta il panorama sembra un quadro ad olio , con questo cielo molto scuro e le montagne che sembrano incollate sopra .
ottimo lavoro
