[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I just realized that this is my 100th post. I thought about posting an older photo of the National Western Stockshow, but I decided to post a photo that I took a few hours ago. I don't want some of the younger photographers to think all that "old man" Obert does is post shots that he did years ago. I can hear it now; "All he does is sit around, get fat, drink beer, and watch NFL football on his new HDTV". I love NFL football but I am too restless to sit around for too long. I hope to do photography until I keel over at 90.

Had a a fairly successful shoot, inspite of the drab overcast weather. I don't particularly like shooting parades. I am always in people's way, the press photographers are a bunch of rude, arrogant jerks and are always in my way, and I almost got run over by a bunch of Texas Longhorn cattle. I would much rather get a press pass to do the stockshow and rodeo. The parade coordinator asked me to photograph this event. To make matters worse I had my first case of a corrupted compact flash card. I took the Lexar 4GB "Exreme" compact flash to the local photo lab for possible restoration. Unfortunately my services for the stockshow and rodeo are not needed this year. Maybe next year.

The image looks a little soft to me, but I don't like to oversharpen compressed images. This is a pale comparison to the full-sized original.

Great shot, Stan!!!
Superb colors and detail. I love the diagonal line of riders coming from the back of the shot. Super contrast under the lighting and weather conditions. Congratulations on your 100th post!! Looking foward to the next 100. Thanks and warmest wishes!!
Shelly

Hello Stan,
Beautiful shot of an event. Nice row of horses with brilliant colors. Good perspective of the street leading to the Union Station.
Regards,
Jusni

Hello Old Stan -

I like the composition very much with the line of flag girls and Union station in the BG. I am glad that you had the foresight to make sure that the Union Station logo was complete (not truncated) and it's placement in the extreme upper left was a good choice. I think I might have had a bit more sky but that is the difference between a pro and a hack. I see the weather conditions were typical stock show and the minimal sky really works well. The colors look great, but it feels like the image is a bit flat and lacks contrast. I guess that is a result of the flat light from this afternoon. Anyway, well done!

Thank you for sharing.

John

BTW - just back from the Bosque and conditions were great and the D-300 is a WOW!

Dear Stan,

CONGRATS FOR THE 100th POST :)
Colourfull parade, and it seems that the colours fade in from the left to the right...
Magical smiles from the young lady, and the white horse of dreams keep this shot virgin.

ALL THE BEST.

Stan,
First, Congratulations for your 100th post!
Good contribution to TE.
I like the composition of your photo, the diagonal line of horses leading to the station is quite nice.
Nice colours, but I feel losing some details (as you mentioned in your note), especially on the faces. Maybe there was too much compression? I noticed the final size is 750px, but including the frame, so maybe the photo is 650px.
A good work. Looking forward for the next 100.
Jorge

One could say old man Obert likes shots of girls on horseback!
Congratulations on your century.
Another fine shot, full of bright colours on a dullish day. Nice viewpoint chosen to give us the perspective along the line of mounted horses.
Thanks for your info about the filters, by the way, I intend to reply to your email.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Stan,
Number 100, congrats on that, it's first step to 1000 ;-)
Nice perspective with the parade and i am glad that the background with the Union Station sign is included in that part. Although light was not at his best, i like the contrasting red wall against all the smiling girls ont he horses. Seeing so many stars and stripes it's again obvious that Americans are very patriotic ;-)
Regards, Henk

Bonjour Stan,

daniel.

Congratulations on reaching your century. That's the first milestone over.
It sounds like you had all kinds of difficulties taking shots from this venue. Your composition is good and the station in the background is perfectly placed top left, with the line of horses taking the eye to it.
Have you tried the "save for web" option? I know it strips off the exif. for those wanting to show it on the left, but you can get much closer to the 200kb allowance. Your file size is 145kb so it would have got you closer with slightly less compression. Not a vast difference compared with the full size but..........
Good work with a difficult subject

hello, stan

a very festive 100th post indeed. congratulations! i like the regal perspective formed by the riders concluded by the union station with it's bright orange writing. everything seems to be well placed in your composition.

as to posting your "old stuff": no objections here. would love to see more of it.

regards and TFS

Hi Stan,
Congratulation on your 100th post and what a fine image you have chosen.
Wonderful depth with beautifully clear colors to this very sharp image. Wonderful festive composition and great employment for the Denver street cleaners. The Union Station makes a perfect backdrop to this lovely photo.
Regards, Tom

Hi Stan, What a beautifully coloured photo, the line of horses give great depth &, you have managed the strong light superbly, very good focus & a real piece of the US, kind regards Wilson.

Hi Stan,
I just realized I had missed your 100th posting; congratulations on this milestone. I do like the diagonal line of girls leading back to the color-coordinated Union station sign. There costumes provide a very attractive repititon of stars and stripes to complement the flags they carry. I also like the way the photo features only the faces of the two girls in front.
HLJ, Pat

Full of joy this important anniversary on TE ...your 100th post!Keep posting my dear friend, you are a joy for my soul
So well chosen the POV,right angle and the colors well saturated

Hi Stan
Very nice national parade your position was ok for having a good perspective.
If you come in France one day it will be very interesting to visit The National cavalery school in Saumur ( Le Cadre Noir) who have an international reputation

Cheers.
