Photographer's Note

This panorama of the Needles in Canyonlands was taken from the Chesler Park Area. These geological features are beautiful to view, but their size is lost in this photo.

The Canyonlands area owes its very existence to erosion. In the case of Needles, each column of rock is topped by a hard white layer that protected the stone beneath. This leads to the peculiar formations that are found throughout the area.
