Isle au Haut is a beautiful, small island off the Maine coast. There are around 50 houses on the entire island, most of them near the northern part that form a little village.

The store pictured here is open a few hours a day and provides for a lot of the daily grocery needs of the residents and the occasional tourist that will venture this way. The people running the store, like most of the islanders are kind and generous.

If you land, and have no/limited cash (which I did on my first trip) they will let you keep an account which you may pay at a later date; for this is a rare store in the US, where (as of July 2006) the credit card has not yet replaced paper!
