Photographer’s Note
After waking up very early at Bryce, I shot many photos of the usual "hoodoos", which are very photogenic in the right light. Then I spotted this strange looking formation with the light hitting it just right. I quickly grabbed my zoom lens to make this composition.

Hello Michael,
An awesome image, the 'close-up' effect is a great idea, uniquely filling the entirety of the frame. The lighting was certainly beneficial in highlighting the rock surface, which in turn allows the rough, abrasive textures of the stone to stand out. The image possesses and excellent grade of clarity which makes the photo so much better to look at. It just makes me wonder about the age of this sort of geological feature! The background is equally as impressive. The dark frame contrasts well. Congratulations.

I think that this is one of the most interesting photos from Bryce I've seen so far, goes to my favourites. fantastic light, and you're right, it is hitting that strange formation just perfectly, love that golden colour on the inside. and I definety like the tight composition you've chosen, the details in the textures are pretty amazing. excellent shot, Michael, thanks a lot for sharing :)
best,

I like the composition. The non lit background makes the subject to stand out.
Offcourse the lighting is the key factor here which creates wonders in Colorado and Utah plate.
Thanks for sharing

I bet this lighting only lasted a moment, so congrats for not only capturing it, but composing it so well. You placed it perfectly in the frame, with a view of the rocks in the background not in the soft morning light.

Nicely mastered shot with emphasis on the details of light on the window frame. The horizontal sediment lines in the foreground hoodoos it a study of line as well as light. Nice!

This is really something, Michael, and such a well chosen and special extract of this famous landscape. I like the golden light giving the stone a soft orange and that you can see the other side in the shade with the rather pinkish color. Great "stone work", I like it. Take care, Barbara.

I like this unusual view of Bryce canyon. I like that you turned a detail of the rocks into a composition in itself.
In general I like the ability of spotting interesting parts from a general view, and take pictures in which the subject in itself is no longer so important, but what it matters is the way lights and objects are placed in the frame, like in this case.
