"The Orme Dam Victory Days is a celebration of the spirit and strength of the Yavapai culture and the will of the Yavapai to overcome adversity. Over the last 100 years the Nation has struggled against efforts to remove the Yavapai from their traditional homelands in the wake of increasing metropolitan development, in this case, to provide a water supply by means of constructing Orme Dam and its reservoir. Fortunately, the Nation has been successful in protecting its homeland for future generations. Today, we celebrate one of the oldest surviving cultures in the world and its connection to its homeland." - part of the introduction by President Raphael Bear, President of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.
