Photographer’s Note
What a big emotion when we reached this place!!
John Ford Point in Monument Valley, the location of many significant Ford Westerns from Stagecoach (1939) forward.
Stagecoach is a 1939 western film, starring Claire Trevor and John Wayne in his breakthrough role. The screenplay, written by Dudley Nichols and Ben Hecht, is an adaptation of "The Stage to Lordsburg", a 1937 short story by Ernest Haycox.
Although Ford had made many silent films in the Western genre prior to Stagecoach, this was his first using sound. It was also the first of many films which Ford made on location in Monument Valley, in the American southwest on the Arizona - Utah border, many of which starred John Wayne.

Gosh...
You couldn't please me more than with this photo, dear Livia .
Utah, Valley, Ford, Wayne...And the magic is back...
Strong and vibrant...
And the swaying side to side walk, and the music, and the 'Howdy pardner ..." - once more
Thanks ga, from the bottom of my heart

Very interesting, Livia. The scene would be lovely with its colors and contrasts and the sweeping line of rock abutments, even with out the people and the sign. In one sense, they seem a trifle out of place, but in another, they establish the shot. Both give some perspective and sense of scale against the vastness of the landscape. The number on the sign is interesting, too. Was there a list of sights to see? In any case, I like the picture, Livia, and the note tells us we're seeing a classic slice of our movie heritage for Westerns.
TFS,
Jim
