"San Diego County spokeswoman Lesley Kirk says the entire town of Julian is threatened by the Witch Fire and now is under mandatory evacuation orders. Water and power in the town are down. The nearest shelter is at Borrego High School on Diegueno Road in Borrego Springs." [32 miles/51 km to northeast.]

I'm shocked by the huge dimension of the wildfires in Southern California [click for my previous post]. According to that news, this pretty home and nice woods in Julian may be burned by now (I wish it is not). I hope at least there is nobody injured.
In the center (inland) of San Diego County, Julian is a quaint mountain town, located in a mixed pine-oak woodland at 4,235 ft (1.219 m) above sea level [see map; click at left]. It is famous for its apples and related products, such as pies and cider (I tasted both and enjoyed them). The town had a short-lived gold rush in 1869.
Julian suffered already the destruction of homes during the 2003 Cedar Fire (the firefighter Steven Rucker, 38, died in Julian then).
