Photographer’s Note
This was taken at Colorado's Garden of the Gods. The rock on the right is called "Balanced Rock". Appearing to defy gravity, this huge (~50 ft / 15 m diameter) rock rests precariously upon a small contact point (8-10 ft / ~3 m) with the rock foundation below it. A quite impressive sculptural work, courtesy of erosion.

Norbert, you are giving visitors to TE a better tour of America than we Americans are doing! These shots have been wonderful. The dramatic sky you give us a a backdrop to those huge rocks is a delight. Great colors and detail, as always. A textbook shot. Thanks for showing part of this country that I've never seen before... ;-)

A very impressive rock indeed! I guess we can call the one on the left "the flatiron" rock...
Wonderful colors and textures, magnificent view.

A wonderful sight again, enhanced here by an excellent PP. The POV is very good and colours seem to jump out the frame, just excellent. I like the mix of nature work and man made elements, particulary the explicit signpost. Excellent composition, a wonderful travel through the US you present across your pictures. Well done, and thanks for sharing Norbert!

This special blue of your has reached a new level. Wonderful rocks, and excellent colors. I like the low angle which shows the landscape and the road as one composition. Very very good one.

Superb composition with again a very good depth and the road as a very smart coupling device between these stunning diagonally stratficated red rocks and the sloping green hills in the background. The very nicely rendered dramatic skies tops it off. Excellent work!

Nice note and I like the face of the elder gods from the Norse Mythology in that rock, brooding and waiting, maybe to topple someday, like the "Finger of God" in the south of Namibia, a world renowned rock finger at Asab, which finally surcumbed to the abbrasional forces of the wind and sand, like this one will also do one day.

A great note and photo, Norbert! I would not want to be on the downward slope of that road should that rock ever decide to roll down it.
I like how the road just looks like it stops, implying a relatively steep grade to the slope. Great job!!!

J'aime bien le mariage de l'ocre des roches avec ce ciel particulierement bleu cela fini le cliché parfaitement.

Wow - I would be nerveous by passing by this place ;-)) - amazing how nature can do such things over a span of several 1000 years. You got this shot with a very fine light and sky as well - funny to see a road been put so close to this "monument" but then again its an artwork - thanks Norbert for showing us.

What a great shot. The colors, the details and the sky are amazing. I love how the road seems to just disappear as if off the edge of a cliff. This road is quite an impressive contrast to the impressive rock formation, too. Almost like the road belongs in a city but the buildings are these rocks. Great capture.

I'd just written a long line of praising words for this when my computer froze, I'll give it another shot ;o)
Well I don't have anything new and exciting to bring to the table, other than I too love this shot - The scne is great, but it's the way you captured it that really makes it work, the splitting road, having to vanishing points that both seem like interesting places to go is great. The colour saturation, somehow let's you know this is the states without even reading it. The sky is perfect aswell as everything else.
Somehow this reminds me of the Roadrunner cartoons, just the perfect setting for a coyote to get hurt badly ;o)

I see you've broken the 10'000 line, Norbert, congratulations! I've looked a couple of time at this photo (I've had some computer problems) trying to figure out why it's so special - because it is. And suddenly: I've never seen a "nature photo" so clean. It's as if the road and the sidewalks are newly swept. Not a grain in sight - well, except for the huge one! And there's a crossing (modified for disabled) and a garbage can - it's so neat!! The image is good too; nice colors and beautiful composition. I like the road just disappearing. Very well done!

Great capture of a nature's artwork. The colours of the rocks nad the skies and clouds are fresh and beautiful but what has struck me most is the composition. I'm impressed how the imaginary extension of almost all lines - of the tops of far hills and slope of closer one, of eroded stones' layers, road horizon and even the left curve of its marking - all gather in one point beyond the picture's left border. Greatly seen!
PS. My a little bit belate congratulations with clearing the 10K bar! :)

This is a great picture, I like how you have captured the hills behind the Garden of the Gods and the sky is wonderful. I miss this place dearly, I used to go here all the time to just think and relax. Good times spent here, I still have a scar from climbing the rock on the left (great view of the springs at night). Its strange, once you figure out how to get up there, there are steps built into the rock.
