Along Clear Creek

Zion NP
Not many people hike Clear Creek in Zion Canyon. It always amazes me that you can be a hundred yards from the main road with thousands of people in the park and still find places where you can be alone.
Clear Creek runs along the main road from the tunnel to the park entrance in the east. While many parts of the creek will have a few people, this portion is very seldom visited. This formation of eroded sandstone is found at the entrance to Hidden Garden, another short side canyon that is fun to explore.
While most of the eastern part of the park is a desert biome featuring mainly sage, mahogony and juniper, rain runoff from the rock is funneled into these side canyons. In these riparian areas ash, cottonwood and birch can be found. |

Hi Allan,
I like this sandstone picture with this beautiful grains. Wonderful light and shadow at work.
Thanks for sharing it.

holy cow...I just hiked the narrows two weeks ago! It is absolutely breathtaking. Unfortunately, my camera went missing during the two day excursion and I lost my photos...I don't think any of them would have been so sharp and well lit as this image. Very well done.

If you can't tell, I am a bit excited to see images of this wonderful place showing up on TE.
Hi Allan,
A very nice image here. The composition is good with exceptional clarity, detail, and striking colors. Great work and thanks for sharing. Gerald
Des couleurs magnifiques pour cette roche toute striée....
On dirait un gros mille feuilles! c'est vraiment très beau!
A bientôt

Allan,
Lovely detail of this wall in Clear Creek.
We took a walk up Pine Creek - which I think flows into Clear Creek - recently. No marked path, no people, fantastic scenery and atmosphere, and safe for anyone with a reasonable sense of direction who's comfortable on rock. Actually, one of the nicest things about Zion, and its amazing rockscapes, is just that ability to say, "hey, let's see what up here", and head off for a little exploration which, Zion being Zion, always reveals something wonderful.
Regards
Colin
