Middle McCloud Falls Photo

Photographer’s Note

Middle McCloud Falls is the best of the waterfalls along the McCloud River. It is about 50 ft. tall and 100 ft. wide. It is also a popular place for swimming in the pools below the falls, though not nearly as popular as the Lower Falls.

The trail to Middle McCloud Falls begins at the Lower Falls, and follows the river through Fowler campground to the base of the falls. It is a short and very easy 20 minute hike from Lower Falls. It is a perfect hike for children, and is very scenic. You may see a lot of deer along the trail, particularly as you walk through the campground. From the base of Middle Falls, the trail continues up a few switchbacks to the top of the falls to a viewpoint, where you can look down upon the waterfall. It is another 10 minutes from the base to the top. You can also drive to the viewpoint if you don't have time to take this beautiful hike along the river.

This place look very pleasant for hiking! That is a nice view on the waterfall on a good shooting angle and framing, soft colors provide a peaceful and quiet atmosphere!

Hi Pranab,
I can see you have got yourself the new Sony DSLR. Thats a good choice as far as I know. Beautiful landscape, never easy to get the right exposure when they are falling in cascade but you seem to have managed well.

This seems to be a lovely place!
If there is fish in the river, the pond right below the fall usually is a good place to try...
I like the composition and diagonal movement, great details in the vegetation!

Hi Pranab. Finally am getting around to doing a few critiques. This one must have been difficult with the strong light and the reflection off the water, but you handled it pretty well. The falls are a little over-exposed, but the composition is very good indeed. Lovely shades of green and brown.
