About 30 miles east of Flagstaff, Arizona, lies Two Guns.
It includes a campground, lodge, and zoo. All were quite popular spots back in the 50's. Once I-40 came through and by-passed this area, it too died a quick death. Of all the abandoned tourist attractions along the old Rout 66 in Arizona, this is one of my favorites.
I spent a week in June of 2003 cruising along all of the Mother Road that is still accessible in Arizona. I concentrated on the state of Arizona, and was able to drive along all of the alignments still open to the public (and along at least one that wasn't).
I did this for my 2004 client calendar, and a prospective magazine article. The calendar was a hit, the magazine article never materialized.
I hope you enjoy this shot. I'll be posting more from this series in coming days. |

Hi Vic,
Welcome to TE!
I like how the IR film gives a really spooky touch to this photo, which goes well with the story. The combination of the really dark sky and the almost white shrubbery is probably what creates this effect, in combination with the slightly out of focus feel you somehow get with IR-film. I don't know if there's any point in telling you this, I'm sure that was your intention.
I guess putting a vertical pole in the middle of a picture like that breaks some composition "rule", but I think it works well: Having a single pole like that, with no obvious purpose, fits well with the story of an abondoned tourist attraction.

Vic: There are so many good things about this photograph I don't know where to start. Composition, sharpness, the words on the old building, the sky, etc, etc. Very well done.
Greetings from Florida................Greg

Hi Vic,
Very true what you added about the B/W infrared film. Amazing effect and truly full of emotion. I might have photoshopped it a bit darker to just work on those over-exposed spots in the grass. But very nice work!!
Kind greetings,
Dennis

Hi Vic,
Here we see also very well how the desert and vegetation are reclaiming these ruins.
Greetings,
