This is from Capital Reef National Park, in Utah. The Capital Reef is a geological formation that stretches for many miles across Utah, with successive ridges of rock jutting up at an angle to form these cliffs. I took this just has the sun was setting, and only the tops of the cliffs were catching the last rays of the sun. I would have liked a better position for this, but I just noticed this as I was driving and I quickly pulled the car over and took this shot before it was too late. Capital Reef is an interesting anc scenic place, but it tends to get overshadowed by some other more famous parks that are in the same area, like the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion NP, and Arches NP.

Hi Alvin,
This is an excellent landscape!
I like the effect of the low light in the rocks, and the warm tones that it produces.
Despite the fact that a very important part of the image is on shade, the other one offers us plenty of textures and colours so enjoyable.
Well done and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Alvin. You know I was supposed to see this place on my vacation in Utah and Colorado but I ran out of time and had to drive right by it! So it's good to see it. Whenever I get back to Utah I will definitely catch it and all the other stuff I missed. You shot this with a Canon? Traitor! ;) Naturally the light and scenery are both tops. I would have posted this a long time ago. Very nice one Alvin!

Hi Alvin,

Great shot with the sun just hitting the tops of the cliffs. The shot is even more special considering you just pulled your car over to take it!

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Alvin,
I have been there myself, a beautiful, but not an easy place to make perfect landscapes. What you found here is really beautiful, although the dark foreground spoils it a bit for me. But as you said your self, a better location would be better....but where? It's not easy to photograph a location where you never have been before, and seeing what you made here is a really good effort. The contrast between the deep red in the foreground and the more softer red in the back is something i really like. On top a soft blue sky which looks really wonderful and gives this image a kind of serene feeling.
It could probably done better...but by who, i don't have a better shot from this location. By that, you did very good here..!!!
REgards, Henk

The lighting here is, as you say special, a fine view of this impressive landscape - TFS :)

Hi Alvin,
I see you decided to add a decent camera to your photographic gear, congratulations ;-)
I like the POV here but my first impression is that the bottom right part is too dark, at least it looks dark on my monitor. However, looking more, it allows the areas lit by the setting sun to stand out better, which is not bad at all and the warm colors, especially around the tree, are very enjoyable.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Witaj Alvin!
Fantastic landscape! Beautiful colors and sharpness. Super light. Congratulations!

Nice shot Alvin. Your shot really highlights the geologic uplift. I haven't been to Capitol Reef in a couple years, but I'm thinking about going back this summer. The lighting is beautiful, although the colors seem a bit less vibrant than your pictures normally have. Pretty shot though. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Alvin,
A trademark signature photo of yours. I can recognize your style immediately. Outstanding!

Hello Alvin,
As someone who has visited quite a few National Parks in the U.S. I should have known about this one, but it seems that I didn't. Good to be there at that interesting hour when shadows become elongated and colors golden.
Many thanks for the very detailed Rocky Mountains suggestions. My friend was more than happy.
Friendly regards - Izzet

Hello Alvin,

Magnificent shot with such amazing lighting. I love the highlight of the sun and the shadow play on the rocks and cliffs. Great POV with amazing colours. Nice to know there are other great places besides the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, etc. Excellent work, Alvin!

Greetings,
Ann

Hi Alvin,

Extraordinay play between light, rocks and shadows. Is very well managed the light, not dark the foreground and with a very good sharp and perspective the backgroun. The background (the tree and the saturated sun over the rock) are very beautiful! Congrats!

Angel.

What a difference in pictures from the green mountains of British Columbia to the solid pinkish rocks of Utah. This has it's own beauty and charm. A good shot, but nothing like your landscape of Britsh Columbia.

Hi Alvin,
Your framing supports the title well; I've never seen quite this POV that emphasizes the waves so well. HLJ, Pat

Fabulous landscape is highlighted by a fantastic lightness capturing last rays of the sun. I like how you managed to retain details in the shaded areas. You captured this very well Alvin. Good work.
