Bluffs Framing Grassland

Pawnee Buttes Trail
Pawnee National Grassland

As I posted in my last post the Pawnee National Grassland is a preserve of 193,000 acres Northeast of Greeley, Colorado.

The main attraction is the Pawnee Buttes trail .. After crossing a field one turns down through these bluffs ..The bluff to the right of the image offered an alternate route that was closed to provide quite nesting grounds for birds of prey.

The cement brick in the trail was from a set placed into the trail to provide some footing through a steep descent .. how it ended up in this location I have no idea .. I swear I didn't move it!

Hi, John
Good POV. The sky is unique!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Philip

Hi John,
looks like the countered one from yesterday. Great landscape and great capture. The formatuions of the rocks are wonderful, never seen such before. Good sharpness, contrasts and colours and the sky is a present. The brick is a "human" detail.

beautiful shot. I like so much the endless view with two horizontal layers facing each other towards infinity; the green ground and the clouds. I may have lihten a bit the foregroung at PP (maybe using shdow/highlight in photoshop) thus bringing more details there. in any case a very good shot. Congratulations!

Hello John,
A very nice composition of this fascinating landscape with immense depth which is emphasised by the cloud forms that seem to go on forever. Good light and shadow contrasts and excellent clarity.

Hello John

Hello John,
Another excellent photo of the Buttes. You couldn't have asked for a better sky! I was wondering about the landscaping block in the middle of this remote place. Bizarre. Excellent work!

Hallo John!
A great landscape - uncommon for European eyes. I like very much the contrast between the umbrageous foreground and the plains in bright sunshine - and this sky, simply gorgeous! In combination with these light conditions a very skillful build up! I think you must love your home ...
Greetings from at last rainy Germany!

Hi John,
Very nice scenery.
Excellent colors, light, depth with superb sky.
Nice work.
Best regards. Uğur

Hello John -

A very nice view from the trail out to the buttes. You captured the grasslands on a very nice day. Both times I have been to the grasslands I have had clear sky's so the definitions on the prairie have been a little flat.

I hate to troll for comments but take a look at my two Pawnee Buttes image. Here and here

Well done and thank you for sharing.

John

Man, John. Everytime I look at one of the wonderful wideopen spaces photos of yours, I take a deep breath. They seem so close to that "Big Sky" in the western states. I love the way the earth and sky meets in the far distance. Beautiful framing, colors and that sky beats all I'ver seen. WOWW! Kind regards,
Shelly

This sky with clouds is beautiful and good circular polarizer! Cokin?

Olá John, wonderful surrealist scenery, under a gorgeous cloudy sky. Incredible depth and excellent management of the lighting, considering the big portion of the FG at the shadow. Great Nature landscape shot.
Best wishes,

John,
This one is just amazing !
You caught nice light effects, and I do like how you managed to emphasoze the contrasts in this beuatiful landscape.
Very nice,
Regards,
JB.

I see you've been out and about again. Another strong landscape fro you John. I like the other grassland shot in your gallery - very simple with only the green, blue and white clouds. I think I prefer this, less minimilast effort though. I like the way you have used the bluffs as a framing device. Strong shot.

PHIL

Magnificent, John!

Is really beautiful. The almost desertic foreground is quite impressive, and the big landscape, the almost infinite perspective is unbelievable! It's a really great shot. It's curious, in this moment I'm listening "Billy the Kid" of Copland, it seems thought for this shot. It's a very good feeling! Thanks a lot! To my favorites!

Angel.

Hi John,
Wow! What a view! It seems like the door to infinity. That shadow on the fg makes it very special and unusual. Then, there is the clever use of the wide angle (did you get another lens or it's just 'our' plain 14-45mm?), that enhances the depth effect of the fg. It's interesting to notice how the photo also results so well without the fg on Gustaw's WS, but this doesn't mean that you should have done it, well at contrary.
Regards, José.

a very good and nice photo to look at John,
fantastic pov, good perspective and a great quality, marvelous contrast, good photojob, I realy like it, well done,

Hi John,
Great depth with this pov, the foreground and this lovely cloudy sky, interesting effect with the light and shade on this view.

Great shot John. Noew I think understand what happen with the other shot. The perspective used and the rock formation pluz the polorizer. With the polorizer the lights rays are dislocated that why in the other photo we have that feeling.

Here it doens't happen because of the perspective. This place is suberb.

thanks for share
Andre

John, the image is great. It gives that real feeling of almost being the first to set foot there, but than this brick reminds us that this can't be true. The brick bothers me and I wonder why you didn't remove it. The photography would be so much enhanced without that ugly piece of civilization.

Hello John!
Amazing scene! Lovely sky!
Perfect composed with amazing perspective!
Best regards!

Another great sky. Really good DOF, color and composition. Love the lighting of the bluff on the left creating a good focal point for the image. I think it may be better if some of the darker bottom part were cropped but it is still really good as is. Nice work.

John

John the clouds seem to on forever. A beautiful scene of the wild west under a nice blue sky. The image is well composed and the place that you show us is quite interesting. Good contrast of rocky hills and plains in the background. Thanks John.
