This photo was taken about 15 minutes after this photo and about 1 mile away.

I thought I was done taking pictures for the day, but as we were driving down the road from the Bonneville Salt Flats, I noticed how the setting sun was illuminating these dried up bushes, and I decided to stop and take a picture. The sun had already begun to disappear behind the mountains to my left when I shot this and 30 seconds later it was gone completely, no more light.

It looks like someone decided to ride their bike right through the middle of this bush. You can see their tire marks in the soft ground.

A circular polarizer was also used along with the ND Grad.

Salut Ryan,
Les couleurs sont belles, le rendu moelleux !
C’est bon pour moi, mais ce qui m’arrête tout de suite ici, c’est ce cadrage plat et centre.
Ca enlève tout volume à l’image !
C’est dommage !
A++

Hello Ryan!
Great light and nice point of view in your composition!
Lovely colours and good clarity!
Excellent done!
Lili

je suis d'accord avec zepi, par ailleirs j'ajouterai que ça manque de netteté au niveau du buisson qui est saturé!en bref ça sent trop le ps.en plus je n'aime pas les traces de pneus en plein désert,du moins sur les photos.

you have an excellent depth of field in this photo. congragulations.

The composition, the light, the colours, the border....

I AB-SO-***-LUTELY LOVE IT!!!

Hi Ryan,
This is a great shot and again, its the late day sun that is the real winner Except that I might have cropped just a bit more off the bottom (a personal preference), I think this shot is a winner all around. Thanks for sharing. Gerald

Great composition Ryan, with the bush alone in the vast landscape, and the mountains in the distance providing a kind of frame with a peak on each side. The lighting is wonderful, giving the surface a very tangible texture. Superb!

Belles couleurs!

Hi Ryan!
Beautiful last moment catch.I like bush in the middle, because branch break monotony perfect.Beautiful long shadows and colors.
Bravo!
Regards!

That snaky wooden stick balances the entire composition. Without it you surely wouldn't place the bush as it is now. The last golden light is very good and I like to see that hint of light on the top of the distant hills. Very good landscape photo.

Hi Ryan,

perfect...foreground detail, great colours and light...really well done photo!

Take care, Ivana

Hi Ryan

Beautiful light hitting the bushes, definately worth stopping for. Great Composition.

Derek

Hi Ryan, this experience of having the impression that you're done for the day and than all of the sudden you pull again your camera out of the bag to have a memorable shot is very well known to me. I'm glad that you did it to get the burning bush. At first I was a little bit irritated with the central placement of the bush but than the little branch laying in front came into my visual field and this element gives back the balance that is required.
TFS, Peter

Hello Ryan,
I love this one !
The golden colors on the sand and on this plant are wonderful. Most of all, what I like is the usage of wide angle with this very interesting forground. The vertical format suits very well.
Great image !
Have a nice week-end.
Best regards, Christian

Hello Ryan,
A superb image, the light on the foreground plant is superb, its placement also with the branche before.
A superb image!

Hi Ryan!
You did well to stop, your reward is this fantastic image.
Excellent composition with this twiglet and bush in the foreground.Amazing depth with the car`s track leading the eyes to the bushes and Mountans in the distance.Sharpness is great too, even the clefts(?) in the dry earth are very good visible.
That`s a Photographers luck,to be at the right place at the right time and you had a good eye for this shot.
Thanks for a new favourite.
Have a nice weekend,
regards,Leo

Hi Ryan,
This is a very fine and spectacular impression. Excellent composition and picturesque details. I like the fascinating atmosphere and the particular lights. Very good shot.
Have a nice weekend.
George

nice picture with amazing angle

It's a photo I might have tried to take myself, style-wise, as you can see here and here. But I probably wouldn't have succeeded so well, as this one has perfect light--silhouetted mountains with a golden spot, and extremely long shadows to bring out every detail. The little stick in the foreground is a great touch. Regards, Ken.

Bonjour Ryan,
I like this one a lot.
You choose the perfect POV, as including a foreground is often a good idea when using super wide angle.
And light is just magnificent, falling on the bush.
Great depth of the landscape too.
Very nice job,
Regards,
JB.

Hi Ryan,

Like all of your shots, this one is very well composed. Very simple, this image is very attractive. Cheer !

Christophe

Hi Ryan,

Great sharpness and light balance on there. I tried a similar shot in december, have a look. (:
TFS, Gilbert

Hi Ryan
Great close up of this nicely lit plant. The fact that it's centred doesn't bother me because the crooked stick breaks the centredness. The cracks add a lot to the foreground and the tracks in the sand really draw the eye to the make of the image and the dark mountains which contrast well.
Regards
Nikki

Hi Ryan:

I like both this photo and its subject. The depth is good, and helped by that bike track. I do think that the mountains in the background are a little dark, but I know with an ND grad you sometimes have tradeoffs. It is still a fantastic shot, one that the rest of us can take a few lessons from. Great job.

Clark

Again and again, I just love your photos.

The light is wonderfull, spreading those gold colours to the bush and "snake", and revealing the wrinkles on the sand. Yes, the bush is very centered, but has Luis noticed, the stick balances it very smoothly. The mountains on the background are another "must", but I just wished the sun shone on them...well, don't you control the sun? I've seen some photo of yours and you must have some sort of power over him...

Great landscape photography. Your technic is flawless.

Parabens Ryan !

Hello Ryan,
Beautiful landscape!
I like especialy the light on the bushes.
The foreground, with lots of details on the ground, is great.
Nice one!
Greetings.

Nice POV, with very good framing downside enhancing the DOF. The lights are beautiful. Very well done!

Interesting image, somehow the thumbnail fascinated me due to the track running diagonaly thruogh the bush. I also like how the soft light of the rising/setting sun. I'm not sure if the piece of wood is required to make the image, but it certainly something more to ponder about when watching at the picture, and its position is well balanced.

Ryan,

Great shot with great light. Well seen and I personally like that you included the cracked parched earth in the foreground.

The light you've captured is really amazing Ryan; outstanding quality about colours and details. Just superp the compo..

Ryan,

You captured some great light here. Your composition is great and exposure are perfect. I wish I could give a more critical critique of your photos, but all of them are so well done.

I guess if I had to force a comment on this one I would say that the mountain/hill in the background is a bit dark, but I'm assuming that's how it naturally was and you don't want to fake that in Photoshop.

Anyway, you've captured a great image once again Ryan. Thanks for sharing,

Brian

Ryan, I think you've been born just at the right place. You've got such a great feeling for photos from western part of US (not that your other pictures would be less good). This is just such a great shot with perfect light and well chosen composition. Great work. Lucie

Excellent light and POV for this very nice picture.
DOF is perfect too. TFS, Andrea

Hey Ryan,

I feel bad about this 'bush'. It may be part of its nature but still it was ruined by a mad rider.

More than shooting good pictures, you open a path to nature. The image here shows that not only we do promote tourist attractions but we should act responsibly and be a 'ecofriendly tourist' or 'host'.

Superb use of lighting. The cast and shadows played that horizon very well creating a shape or silhoutte. Perfect scene of the crime image. I like the torn part of the plant in the foreground with light hitting its piece, despite after being 'run' to shreds.

A strong and provocative photograph!

Cheers!

Jom
