Minneapolis Skyline

A cloudy night in Minneapolis, Minnesota

(I rewrote this sentence after realizing I worded it in a confusing way .. hopefully it is clearer now)
After 128 posts I have used a frame .. this just seemed to need something like that ...

In addition to my first frame .. this is my first skyline .. and I have only attempted a few night shots .. so a great deal new for me here ...

The attempt at this image was on my check list for my spring break vacation last week. I managed to slip up to Minneapolis to visit my little brother .. he's an attorney who has a town home just across the Mississippi river from downtown .. with a rooftop patio .. so I was hoping take advantage of the opportunity to attempt this.

a few tidbits from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minneapolis,_Minnesota

Minneapolis grew up around St. Anthony Falls .. at the time the North end of the commercially navigable portion of the massive river ..
The tale is that the city was named by an early school master who combined the words Minnehaha (the Dakota word for water) .. and Polis (the Greek for city) ..

Minneapolis adjoins the city of St. Paul. Together they are known as the "Twin Cities" and form the 16th largest metropolitan area in the United City .

Minneapolis is a beautiful city of large lakes, rivers, and wooded parks ... well known as a haven for the arts .. especially music.

Hello John,
Wow ... 128 images? Didn't know or could not imagine that it would take that many. Or am I reading the notes wrongly? Seamlessly merged. Good clear night view of Mpls. I am missing Minnesoto now - spent six years of my life in that beautiful state. Regards. Latiff.

Tips: If you have the opportunity do the Gun Flint Trail, or the Boundary Water Canoe Area (BWCA).

Hello John -

Very good image John. The lights on the left hand building are a tad OE'd but it is not that bad. The rest of the image looks OK. These shots are best captured at sunset during what is called the blue hour. The blue hour is that period between sunset and dark where there is still light in the sky. If you had captured at that time you would not have taken 128 images. Your meter readings would be very close to the correct exposure. Well done!

Thanks for sharing

John

Hi John,
interesting capture of a skyline in the night, well realised as a panorama. I like the good light management with the brighter spots and some darker parts but both with details and good sharpness.

Woooooh John, an unusual photo from you here in TE but really wonderful, the result is really great.
The high buildings come so nice, the lightness is very good.

I will come back

Hi John, a refreshing new approach with a frame and night city skyline. It seems to me that you handled the light conditions quite well. I'm sure that this wasn't very easy with the completely lite building in the background.

Hi John,
Now this is a surprise! The man of the gorgeous landscapes also knows how to shoot on the big city! And at night! Not being my kind of subject, I am not a bit biased praising this one. Great pov and impressive exposure and sharpness!
Regards, José.

Hi John,
Beautiful night time landscape of this wonderful mid western city. The frame works well with this one and how does it feel to be out of the mountains and in the big city? Another first for your wonderful collection.
Regards, Tom

hi john,
very nice skyline here and well seen and crafted night-view ... not only you're good at lanscapes, but you're proving your cityscapes/skyscapes are also good!
what's next? street photography? can't wait :)!
... good work here - thanks for sharing,
dora

Hi John,

A picture which cannot pass through if seen as a thumbnail. I like the discipline with which it has been realized, the sharpness and the panoramic cut. As usual I will nevertheless suggest that you retake the picture at the blue hour, before the sky becomes completely black. You may be even happier with the results -\I wish you am excellent Sunday.

Congratulations on a very successful double first attempt! The frame is right for this image, of course, but I must say that I am very impressed with the clarity of your night-shot! the lights look superb and are super-sharp

Hello John,
It is exceptional, a photo like that in your gallery. Beautiful clearness.

MPLS rocks! I've never been, but some great music comes from there for sure. Nice clear skyline, with sharp definition, yet the brown colors give it a nostalgic feel. And yes, the border definitely a good choice here. - Cheers.

I think I miss to critique this one John. THis is a real good shot. And it is one of your rare shot too I guess. So I would say you do real good job here. Sharp and good light. And nice framing too. Well done. Sothy
