These are some more of the historic trams running on SF’s F Market Heritage Railway Line. They are waiting along the Embarcadero just east of the Ferry Building (some old wharf buildings and a bit of the double-decker Bay Bridge are in the background). Streetcar 1061, in the front, is one of the PCC cars acquired by SF from Philadelphia in 1992 for the F Line. It is painted to honor Pacific Electric, which ran PCC streetcars in Southern California from 1940 to 1955. Southern California once boasted one of the great interurban train systems in the world—the mighty Pacific Electric (PE)—running from LA east to San Bernardino, west to Santa Monica, south to Long Beach, and to dozens of cities in-between, using many types of streetcars, but all known as the ‘Big Red Cars’ to Southern Californians. To read more about this car, as well as the other historic cars running on the F Line, see here (click on “Streamliner PCCs" for car 1061 and the other PCC cars).
The PCC (Presidents' Conference Committee) streetcar (tram) design was first built in the United States in the 1930s. The unusual name comes from the fact that the car was designed by a committee, formed in 1929, representing various electric street railways. The Electric Railway Presidents' Conference Committee was tasked with producing a new type of streetcar that would help fend off competition from buses and automobiles. The committee produced a high-performance design that was commonly used in the following decades. The cars were popular because of their distinctive streamlined design and smooth acceleration. It turned out that, reputedly unlike many other things produced by committees, the PCC streetcar was a very good basic design. Many railways altered the car in various ways to fit their own needs, but most cars retained a standard appearance. The first batch of 100 cars was built in 1936 for Brooklyn, New York. The trams are also in use in other countries as well.

I love the PCC cars
Jackie,
The old streetcars are great. Your composition is good showing the streetcar coming toward us. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail.
TFS,
Asa
Hi Jackie,
Beautiful design and fun to see three of them in different colours. Careful framing with the palmtree on the left. Thanks for the note and link, those streamliners look really great!

Hola Jackie.
Very good composition with the famous streetcars of SF. Good point of view and nice colors tones, each one with a different color. The palm trees plus the street lights add to your shot. Excellent sharpness, you played very well with shadows and light.
Well done. TFS.
Regards.
