The power of the ocean is incredible, and the waves just keep coming, one after the other, without end. This is a photo from Ecola State Park, high on a rocky headland looking down toward Cannon Beach. This was just after a storm passed through, so the waves were huge. One indication of the size and power of the waves is to see how white the water is. In this case, the entire ocean is white with foam! Taken just before sunset, so you can see some yellow/orange light on the tops of the waves.

Very beautiful sight and marvellous beachweather; good compo and well cropped.
serge44 (273) 2007-03-14 14:23
photo très vivante on sent le vent, beaux contrastes entre le ciel sombre et menaçant de l'horizon et les reflets dorés des vagues du 1er plan
merci pour la vision

Gee, Alvin - where were you standing?!?!
What a stunner this one - haven't seen
anything THAT good for ages.
Beautiful sparkling surface and the mist
at the same time... must be cold air from
the see mixing with warm one coming from
DzULA (840) 2007-03-14 14:47
Very good moment, and the timing too. The colors are superb, and the shine of the sun on the waves, the fog... Briliant

Hi Alvin, great composition and a beautiful picture. Lovely light on the water, and the mist-covered mountains remind me of my native Scotland! TFS, Colin.
sleon (9402) 2007-03-14 15:35
This shot really does convey the movement of the waves, the feeling of the foam and the atmosphere of the mist. The lighting gives a magical feel and the mist and cloud are very atmosphere. Lovely capture.

Curious place. I like the composition and frame. Intertesting colours. Good work.
presidente (1122) 2007-03-14 15:41
Very good picture Alvin. I was there in 2002 but was a cloudy day and the light was not so good so my picture has not so beautiful color. I like also the composition.
nwoehnl (122) 2007-03-14 16:23
Hi Alvin. A good oldie you found here, and it is one of the best OR beach photos that I have seen on TE. That is mainly due to the stuning atmosphere rendered by the combination of this lighting and the way in which the seaside rocks and details gradually vanish into the haze towards the background. Also a very graphical quality is given by the shapes of the incoming tide and the randomly disposed rock formations. Great shot.
kdialyna (3148) 2007-03-14 17:22
This is a realy impresive photo.
I can feel the power of the ocean.
Exellent light, colors, DOF.

A classic Ecola shot Alvin - it's certainly a wonderous coast for the landscape photographer - make space in your diary to take a trip down this coast in the wild winter months, as I'm sure we'd all like to see the results!
singuanti (15250) 2007-03-14 22:03
Hi Alvin. Every time I see an awesome shot from Cannon Beach I get jealous because it was raining buckets when I was passing through and I didn't even bother pulling over. You have a stunning combination of light, fog, and clouds. I'm surprised you didn’t post this ages ago! Incredible shot Alvin!
plimrn (21344) 2007-03-14 23:33
I do believe I was on the Oregon coast at the time of this storm; however, had I taken a picture it would not have compared with this splendid shot. The title describes the scene well with those endless rows of waves and the hillsides repeating through the fog, Fog shots are a real challenge and you have managed this on exceptionally well with the last daylight turning the waves to gold and the fog creeping in on 'little cat feet' up the hillside. As this other reviewers agree, this shot is simply stunning. HLJ, Pat

Aaah, wonderful shot of this beautiful place! I love the low light of the sun hitting on the waves and sea stacks. The fog and clouds add to this shot and make it more mysterious looking. Great composition with beautiful details! Great work, Alvin!
PixelTerror (0) 2007-03-15 4:19
It's a very refreshing view that gets its dynamism from the abundant sea waves, it's deep and I like the fading of the rocks into the fog with the distance, looks like a very nice place.
Have a nice day,
vincz (19113) 2007-03-15 4:37
Excellent shot, beautiful light, I like so much the yellow colours on the see, the misty atmosphere is great as well. very pleasant to look at.
themarcside (53) 2007-03-15 5:31
The fairly subtle juxtaposition of warm colours (sunset) and cold colours (clouds of the storm) makes this image stand out. Unfortunately it is hard for me to get a sense of scale - the foam on the waves isn't quite enough for me - and thus I find the lower half a bit boring. Couldn't you have made someone stand on that single rock? ;-) Marc
partha (14020) 2007-03-15 5:35
Excellent shot. the atmosphere, lighting condition, pov and dof all works wonderfully.
brevbrev14 (140) 2007-03-15 6:49
Hi ALvin, great image!!
the different levels are wonderful as the place!
The sea is fantastic as the lights!
ChrisJ (98008) 2007-03-15 9:30
I like the repetition of the waves & graphism of the dark rocks & islets against the lighter sea. Good vantage point & tfs!
henrytf (985) 2007-03-15 11:39
I like the movement of the waves towards the beach.
We can almost feel it.
The skimming light reveals their beauty and the haze in distance is a real plus.
sabyasachi1212 (19771) 2007-03-15 13:37
Another unforgettable image. The surf and the mist in the BG cast a magic spell here. I would like to have some human element included in most beach photos but definitely not on this one, its like a timeless image.
With Greetings from India

what a great POV and what a wonderful view. Wonderful long waves with this orange colour. But I like also those misty mountains that fade into horizont. You've acchieved a feeling of neverending ocean. I like the picture very much.
Have a nice day,

Very impressive sensation of wideness.
The power of the ocean is well represented here !
Great place to take pictures !
sarahnatalie (695) 2007-03-15 21:46
This is exceptionally beautiful, making the power of the ocean seem very impressive. I like the light shining on the waves, too. Very, very nice!
cdmonson (4772) 2007-03-16 3:04
Fascinating shot! I love that the shot has a feeling of motion to the left of the frame--the waves, the mist. Beautiful shot in every respect. Thanks for sharing.
Stepan (27210) 2007-03-16 3:58
Perfect title for a perfect realization. This shore is absolutely lovely and attractive, especially with that soft light. Great realization.

Looks like a beautiful painting. Very romantic, poetic scenery. Great colours and light. Congratulations!

doubay (2093) 2007-03-16 12:50
what for a sight! Great pnorama shot. The waves of the Pacific Ocean look really impressive. Congrats.
kmarscher (2887) 2007-03-16 15:51
Exemplary! This is first rate because you took advantage of the confluence of time of day and storm front passage. Your shot clearly defines why these two elements are the ones every photographer should aim to capture. Also points out to me yet another reason to shell out for a bigger wide-anlge lens. Killer shot...I'm envious.
jean11-3 (2799) 2007-03-16 17:53
A fantastic shot Alvin.
The shades of blue in the b/g with the hills and clouds merging;the sunlight just catching the tops of the waves;this is a beautiful atmospheric shot. You were there at just the right time.
TFS, regards Jean.

You have had this squirrelled away for some time...Tremendous power and vitality emanate from the scene, with the foaming waves and also the dynamic clouds and mist. I like the way the yellow/orange light is seen on the tops of the waves. The panorama format really works here. Well captured.
keribar (43841) 2007-03-17 2:05
That's my boy ! I really appreciate photographers who have the spirit and the will to get up early when the light is low, and even before sunset. Here you were rewarded with an incredible view, and we can all welcome it in TE - Excellent ! - Izzet
kensimage (8561) 2007-03-17 2:21
This is a winner for sure, Alvin--the dark stormy clouds of the past, and the warm golden light of life's bright future! (I wish.) It's a great semi-panoramic composition with the rhythmic waves. Perfect timing, and for you, great memories of the place, preserved! Regards, Ken.
jbweasle (9373) 2007-03-17 6:44
Hi Alvin, this is a wonderfully powerful seascape. I have seen your shots from here before and this one lives up to your previous high standards. The waves make for an interesting forground along with the rocks and I love the way the background fades into mist and clouds.
tabora (0) 2007-03-17 13:18
Tout simplement superbe.
Couleurs, point de vue, lumières.
capthaddock (28790) 2007-03-17 19:48
Hi Alvin - wow, you waited almost 3 years to share this, I remember you had some awesome shots from Cannon Beach, but the light, the clouds, everything comes together here, since I personally know hoe big these rocks are, I found "the marc"'s critique too anal.
PJE (20758) 2007-03-17 22:12
Well well Alvin it is a real treat to see this photo of the west coast in Oregon. A very good light capture at the end of the day. Endless is also a very fitting title, and the points given to this photo bring good evidence of a wonderful capture.
jsec (2152) 2007-03-18 0:11
This is one of the best seascape images I have seen. The light is perfect and composition is superb. Majestic.

Superbe image, avec une très belle lumière et un joli effect des vagues. cete image me rapelle la Great ocean road in Austalia.

Wouaaa, a gret lanscape. Wild cool. The light and the smoke are wonderfull.
It's a great picture
Photo65Net (43120) 2007-03-19 14:16
This is an amazing landscape.
Reduced DOF, due to mist, is a great add to the beautiful compo.
Tones and colors are superb, and so is the water texture.
josepmarin (57799) 2007-03-19 14:51
What small we are the human beings opposite to the great power of the nature, and what you it have well caught in this photo.
The force of the ocean pushing with his waves on the coast, invading it with his foam, the rocks resisting, and the background that gets lost between the fog, they form an excellent composition.
The light of the Sun that illuminates the foam of the waves in foreground adds furthermore beauty to the image.
erdna (5711) 2007-03-19 18:46
You have captured here the rythmn and beaty of the waves as the storm clouds passed away. The lighting is wondeful. Only the trained artistic eyes can see these photo opportunities. Very well done.
coco (30439) 2007-03-21 4:37
What great view and photo. It looks amazing and you did a great capture.
Good composition and the panoramic format.
Gerrit (47886) 2007-03-21 11:43

Ola Alvin que bela paisagem , muito bonitas as ondas , as cores estão muito bonitas .
Um abraço Gonçalo
ben4321 (9875) 2007-03-22 14:50
This is a wonderful shot Alvin, really atmospheric with the crashing waves and the haze over the hills in the background.
What I like especially is how the lines of the two waves at the edges of the frame lead the eye into the scene from the corners. Whether it was good timing or luck, it works very well.
athos99 (6894) 2007-03-23 16:10
J'adore cette composition, par sa lumière, la brume et la vague. C'est un très beau paysage qui est mis en valeur par ton talent.
pierrefonds (57019) 2007-03-24 14:21
A good POV of the sea, of the waves, of the rocks and of the mountains, the photo has a goode composition, DOF and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Its fantastic Alvin, I just love these kind of landscapes with the drama and power of nature. Very nice work..
frostymon (191) 2008-02-05 9:06
Ah, yellows and blues....I love that color combination. I wish this shot came with sound...i'd like to hear those waves. I think this particular shot could benefit from a frame....
CLODO (30256) 2008-12-31 2:11
I discover this stunning shot of the ocean. Everything is perfect: the framing going from right to left following the waves, and leading to the misty mountains. Of course, a low sun gives a golden light at the top of the waves, contrasting with the cold overall colour of the photo
AnaRita (1741) 2009-09-12 9:10
I really don't know where to begin. A beautiful landscape - a painting - with strong and delicate sunset light at the same time. Dark clouds, the lifting fog... Well, its simply perfect. Congratulations.
Thank you so much for sharing. Have a nice weekend,
MLINES (12516) 2009-12-24 14:54
Hi Alvin, Ideal POV from a high vantage point. Showing such a long strip of coastline with the waves adding drama to this fine image. TFS. Murray.
