Photographer’s Note

Rainbow Falls, Hilo, The Big Island of Hawai'i

Just on the outskirts of Hilo is a small park with a waterfall along Wailuku River. The area is called Rainbow Falls but these two small falls are a subset of the main fall. I found this vantage point looking through the jungle vegetation to capture the small but delicate falls. When my wife and I were visiting this park it was just beginning to rain but within the hour the light drizzle had turned into a downpour. This is something one must expect in the tropics especially when you are on the windward side of the island. By the time the rain started in earnest my wife and I were firmly seated in a restaurant having lunch.

(As a note; the vertical object you see in the image just right of center is a jungle vine)
