Overlook into the Sun
Lyons Overlook -
Roxborough State Park - South of Denver, Colorado.
For those just tuning into this set .. Roxborough is a place of beautiful red rock fins in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
.. and now on with the story ..
Andrew and I had nearly finished our loop .. down through the rocks .. then up the back side .. Even though Andrew was not so pleased about the climb back up he agreed to go with me up the little side path to the Lyons overlook. We emerged from the stand of pines hiding the view (see previous post) .. into the glowing brightness of the winter sun .. The light had been tricky and wonderful all day .. Clear blue to the North ... and to the South .. the bright afternoon winter sun dancing in and out of the clouds ... in a way very similar to the wonder that was this spot in November
Inspired by that shot and by some images I have viewed here .. I tried a few shots into the sun veiled by clouds .. This is my favorite of the into the sun set.

Hi John this has an almost surreal feel to it.
There are lovely textures and amazing colours.I particularly like the sky and the detail in the foreground.TFS, regards Jean.

This phto is really good! Those red rocks make a strange but very beautiful effect mixed with the white colour of the snow and the green pine trees.Very good composition!

une vue pas mal impressionnante, il y a du relief et il est bien perceptible dans cette photo Ó l'Útonnante profondeur.
Le ciel est de toute beautÚ et il va sans dire que ce paysage est une fois de plus fantastique.

This is one photo I am happy to have gone past "thumbnail" phase. Highly reminiscent of "Garden of the Gods" in Manitou Springs, the red rocks, with their pattern of diagonal upsurge provides the all important diagonal elements to the shot. The colors and patterns indeed make this a surrealistic scene. Well done, John,

Beautiful rugged winter landscape loaded with fine details. The rocks cropping up on the mountain sides and the valley look very dramatic with the bits of snow clinging to their surface. The green of the pines and silver sky with a streak of blue lend depth to this beauty.

How I missed this one while giving clue before your last post. Rust colored rock formations are splendid and you very skillfully add the valley with green pine trees at left bank under superb sky. Congratulations.

Hello John -
Very nice with some very pleasing light. This continues to remind me of how nice Roxbourogh is and it is so close too. There appears to me a soft spot right in the middle of the image - I wonder if you have a fingerprint on the glass or a spot on the sensor.
Thank you for sharing

Hi John, #99 looks just as good as #100. To be honest I even prefer this POV over the higher rated one although the light conditions are'nt so good here. The diagonal red rocks looks very good and contrast amazingly beautiful with the white of the snow and the luxious green vegetation.

Great landscape shot with some beautiful tones in the rocks far and near. Great depth and a very interesting sky. Siuperb definition.

THIS is a spectacular view. The slant of the tree(s), the cliff and then the carry-over to the other side, in the snowy lines on that maroon-brown rock. I love it!
The "into the sun" only adds to the setting! Well done, Jay

Stunningly beautiful! The pov using the diagonal, the sky, everything...
I suspect that the light wasn't an easy one, but anyone less attentive wouldn't notice it, as the light is one of the things that makes it so appealing.
I notice here the "strange" sharpness that I know of some of your other posts, namely that of the bridge, but here it results very nicely.
By looking at the November post, I understand (again) why snowed mountains are so much more appealing than the ones that have no snow.
