Photographer’s Note

Finally, a shot from my home state! This is the Port Isabel lighthouse in Port Isabel, Texas. The lighthouse is over 140 years old, and although it is no longer in use it remains one of the landmarks of the area. Admission to the lighthouse is inexpensive--$1 for students, $3 for adults, and I believe children are free. It provides a great view of the Gulf of Mexico and of South Padre Island, just across the causeway. Definitely a must see if you go to South Padre Island.

I took this shot on my honeymoon to South Padre. I was using my wife's camera, but it turned out better than I would have expected--most of my other shots weren't very good. I found this shot when I was clearing out her memory card the other day; I'd totally forgotten about it. Hope you all like it.

Good light house shot, and I really like the appearance of the sky behind, which adds a lot of interest. Having the lighthouse in the middle is a safe choice, but you could have tried to place the lighthouse off to one side and that might look even better. Thanks for sharing (and congratulations on your marriage!).

Hello Clark -

Very nice in deed! The blue sky's really make the light stand out. I see this was taken on the shady side of the light and the details are very nice and not underexposed. Well done!

This is an excellent shot of this lighthouse. The grass and sky add nice contrast to the white lighthouse. Your lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The sky is great here as well.

Hi Clark,
Nice view to this light house which is perfect in its simplicity. It looks great on this sunny day with plenty of gentle white clouds.
However I believe that a bit of sharpening would enhance your image additionally.

Nice capture of the lighthouse against the beautiful sky. But I don`t like the dark line framing the brighter part of the lighthouse, which I suspect comes from the magic wand tool :)?
