Photographer’s Note
This photo was taken while on the ship MV ALGOLAKE my husband is the Captain and I was on a 3 week trip with him over the Christmas Holiday. At this time we were in Detroit, Michigan at a place called Zug Island. The island is home to a huge steel plant. The ship unloads coal here from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I was experimenting with nocturnal photos and was going to toss this one but I actually liked it because of the bright flame. The darkness in the foreground is the coal that the ship is unloading.
Thanks for visiting my gallery and your comments on my photos.

Hi Donna,
Beautiful slow exposure photo of the industrial scene. The steel mill gives it a dramatic feel.

Hi Donna,
Good to see you again.Something a bit different as I haven't come across many "industry" images.A good expression of man at work with the bright flame and rising smoke.Good clarity for what seems to be a handheld image.Take care.
Regards, David

It's surprising how beautiful ugly industrial scenes can look at night. The lights and silhouettes are very attractive here. I might just have been tempted to crop from the bottom, but nevertheless this is a pleasant sight.

It is a beautiful scene, I think. I like the mix of industry here. Reminds me of a sunset photo I took along the Detroit River with the factories along the shore. In this I like the lines of piles, maybe of coal, and how that extends back to the skyscraper like industrial complexes and refinery. The flame from the tower really enlivens the image with energy. I'm sure it was hard to compose but it works. I did a workshop to try to bring out some of the lines lost in the shadows at the bottom.

Bonsoir Donna,
Très bon titre pour cette photo.
La nuit donne l'impression de beauté avec ces sihlouettes et cette torche de feu. La réalité est certainement tout autre.
Amicalement.

Your photo is wonderful with silhouettes and industrial illuminations while lights are creating splendid plays on huge smokes in dark night. Lamps are making good job there because draws buildings very well. Congratulations.
