Photographer’s Note
This photo was taken on a trip to Santa Barbara in 2004. I've learned a few lessons in post processing since then, 2 of which are fundamental.
1) Always sharpen as your last action, after resizing. Most of my prior shots were sharpened prior to resizing, and they all look a little soft.
2) Convert all your photos to sRGB prior to posting. Most of my prior shots (including the prior McCaw shot were in aRGB). If you don't convert, your images wind up looking flat.
Regards,
Don

Nice work Donald, The parrot is so sharp and the background has a nice bokeh. You have achieved great focus of the bird and tree... the colours are awesome too.

Incredible colour in this shot Don, it really jumps out of the frame at me. I like the close up detail too, which shows even the texture of the feathers. I think you're right on both of your processing tips, as I had to learn both of those lessons too. Great work!

Hi Don,
A crisp clear shot of this fabulous bird. I like the way the perch angles out from the frame and also your tight framing. Your note is right on, especially the part about sharpening as your last action. The corollary to the latter point is never sharpen more than twice - the first time when you first open the photo on your computer. Well captured.
John
