What will this new year bring? The days walk toward us, orderly, in step, but disguising the chaos of time and the randomness of chance. Will we negotiate the crush of possibilities, or we will we be stopped in our tracks by an unyielding mass? We can't see clearly now. Perhaps we never shall. But surely there will be some resolution in the days to come. Surely we will find, in the rush of time and air, a moment, if just a split-second, of clarity.

(Fifth Avenue, New York City, some time in the year 2006)

I don't usually go for intetionally blurred, dare I say "arty" shots such as this, but I rather like this one.
There's just enough blur so that the faces and vehicles are just about recognisable, and the shapes, colours and points of light work well together.
The only thing that doesn't work for me is that large bright area in the top left corner. I think this would have been better if you had managed to exclude it.

Cheers,
Ben

Brave choice on this one, and I think it works well. I agree with Ben that the highlights are a little too much, but I don't think excluding all the highlight space would be good, either. Perhaps if we were all still shooting film, there would be a little detail of interest there! I always like the "circle of confusion" effect of point source lights turning into hexagons.

My job is to keep things in focus, so it is fun to see things soft!

Cheers,

Andrew, "Boots".

hi Hugh,
I like this one very much, nice colourpalet and oh yes ... the blur :)))
greetings, inn

Thanks for this meaningful shot, Hug! Good light and note!
Indeed... Can we see clearly through the crowd of our desires and our fears, of our expectations and our doubts? Can we distinguish, over the blurred ghosts of our mistakes and uncertainties, the path towards tomorrow...? Maybe... We could find a different lens to sharpen our vision of events, or change the speed of our lives? Maybe... we could let the light come in and handle it with care to direct it towards our consciousness...
So when we'll have a look back, and we will consider the balance sheet of our experiences, we will be able to leave this world without regret...

Let's hope that 2007 will be such a decisive moment.

Regards,
Marine

powerful shot. I liked the way you "saw" this shot and the message it brings to the viewer. The composition is absolutely wonderful. This is a well thought out and well composed picture. You must have a great mind for telling a story through your camera, great job!

And, in that split-second of clarity - will we understand why and what for it came upon us...Will we shrug our shoulders and say:
Pity…It wasn't worthy waiting for all my life…
The mist and blur of life suited me much better…
It gave me a thrill of expectations, of some never fulfill jackpot winning numbers or love that will last and that trip to, which we planned and never go…
Fuggedaboutit…
As long as I can chew…

I've seen plenty of blurred shots recently on TE, but this one seems to take it to the next level. This looks much like an artistic painting Hugh, you've done a great job here.
