Location: Sunrise on String Lake, with Mt. Moran reflected in the water.
About the Photo: This was another one of those peaceful mornings in the rocky mountains. No wind what so ever. I was all by myself. Not another person or photographer within sight or hearing. Unfortunately there weren't any awesome clouds to include in the photograph, but the scenery was still beautiful. I apologize if the colors seem a little off. It looked good in Photoshop, but every time I tried saving for the web, the colors seemed to go a little crazy.

This is a very nice picture with excellent colors and details. The light of the early morning truly gave you a good picture. The reflections and the fog over the water are excellent. I like the clarity and the alpenglow ove the mountain. Nice work Ryan :-)

pablominto (53746) 2006-10-22 2:58
Good angle of lighting gives an extra plus!
A fine, classical landscape composition, desirable elements present like reflections, foreground interest and a well lit main subject...
The fog hovering over the surface adds atmosphere!

Floydian (30970) 2006-10-22 4:33
Again a lovely picture...man i really wished i could live a year in your area, all these places are so easy to visit.
Seeing this at the first light of the day..it's beautiful. The lines from the mountain and trees find it's perfect reflection in the lake.
That single rock is just perfect for the overall composition...did you drop it there? ;-)
Your light is perfect...as usuall.
When you save for the web colors will be switched to "sRGB". When you are running Photoshop in a workflow using "Adobe RGB", colors will be look different when saving. I have switched my PS also to sRGB a long time ago. My camera is set to Adobe RGB, but i convert at home to sRGB when using the pictures for the web.
Maybe a hint?

you catched the perfect lightning. These reflections are wonderful.
Very beautiful warm colours.
Looks so quite and peaceful.
Have a nice Sunday,

A perfect reflexion. The photo is so clear and calm. Apparently the water is shallow, you can see some details just below the surface.
Splendid work, mate!
gary91 (15348) 2006-10-22 4:53
What a magic atmosphere. So peaceful and quiet. THe lights are exceptional and the reflection is perfect. Why do you find the colors not good enough ? They are beautiful on my screen.
Again a marvelous nature shot from yours.
Best regards. Christian

Lovely. One can only be mesmerized by what our world has to offer in terms of beauty and calm by seeing this photo. Well captured.
fallan (1860) 2006-10-22 10:38
Another beautiful photo. Great eye. What makes the 'x' in the water? I like the fog and would like more of it. A faster shutter maybe?
gramma (3519) 2006-10-22 12:49
An another beautiful sight of Rocky Mountains. Reflection is very good with this fog. Well done !

It's good to see photos that break the rules and still RULE! Ryan, this photo ROCKS! I think the colors are still great! Very very nice light on your scenery.
Cormac (26563) 2006-10-22 13:35
Fantastic shot! The reflection is perfect, and the light just kissing the top of the mountain is really beautiful. I also like the slight mist on the water, which gives this a very special and ephemeral look. Beautiful!
servin (474) 2006-10-22 14:24
belle composition, très jolie couleurs et très beau reflet.
anesugur (18789) 2006-10-22 14:28
This is truly lovely!
The reflections on the water are superb.
The colors are amazing and the composition is perfect.
adalfons (281) 2006-10-23 6:04
Great effect here, but no pp here? The colours are surreal.
luisafonso (862) 2006-10-23 6:51
The colors look good to me Ryan. But be sure to switch the Photoshop viewing colorspace to sRGB. The photo itself is amazing, as usual. Composition is great. Perfect use of ND (now that I know what to look for ;)), that rock on the right providing strong foreground interest and a terrific light management. Love the detail you pulled from the foreground water without using a polarizer. What can I say: perfection!
a_i_ren (1315) 2006-10-23 10:43
Great peaceful landscape, Ryan! Love the fog on the water surface, beautiful compo, amazing reflection. Excellent!
darrasin (2860) 2006-10-23 15:08
Hello Ryan! Nice work, I like the symmetry of how the ridge with trees balances the ridge without trees. Expert use of the the graduated color filter as usual.

Stunning shot with the beautiful elements of a sunrise over a lake present. I love the sun hitting the mountain, the calm water reflecting the surroundings and the mist rising from the lake. Excellent composition with great quality and colours! Fantastic work, Ryan!
Rodrigues (1035) 2006-10-26 4:33
Another dreamy landscape scenery! The light is awesome and the reflection perfect. I don't think it's undersaturated, the shoreline have rich green/yellows. But the sky looks a bit washed really. But you used a ND, a polarizer (saw your answer to Luis) and it seems near the right position (90º to the sun)...I can't understand!
Of course that remark of washed sky applies to you only. To any other photographer I wouldn't make that remark, but you "raised the bar" so high...
zeca (19762) 2006-10-27 1:11
Clean. Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful!
The lights and reflections are great!
Very well done, Ryan! SOOO NICE!
macondo (18977) 2006-10-27 2:48
Hi Ryan. Lovely reflection shot with well chosen viewpoint and very good depth from this slow exposure. I like the clearness of the water in the foreground, and the morning mist. Colours seem fine to me. No need for clouds.
leiju (1697) 2006-10-27 6:43
I don't know if there is really any point in commenting to your absolutely perfect pictures anymore at all... There's not much left to say except that they are simply perfect. What an eye and what beautifully handled technique. Perfect. Thank You :)
dbyoungster (29) 2006-11-04 8:14
Ryan, I really do appreciate this subtle beauty. You got up early and framed this reflection in perfect light. Personally, I like the lack of clouds in this, the gradient of color in the atmosphere is very pleasant. The mirror image is stunning, the rising mist is a great touch and I really like how you have anchored the entire scene with that half-submerged rock in the right foreground.
Shots like this inspire us all to improve our shooting.
bakes888 (18499) 2006-11-08 2:47
Hi Ryan. Wonderful scene. The colours, mist on the water and reflection all combine to give this shot a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The center split is a good option in this case I think. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Ryan! Wonderful landscape! Nice composition, with great colours and reflections! Well done! TFS! Greetings from Rio! Miguel.

This shot in particular is what really inspired me when I went to the Tetons. How many days were you there? Once again, your shots are beautiful from this area - your post-processing work is great here as well.
cdmonson (4910) 2007-04-18 18:29
Your photos of the Tetons have got me itching for my trip in a couple months. This is a beautiful shot of String Lake, and one of the only sunrise ones that came up when I did a Google Image search (I'm trying to figure out what everything looks like for my planning). I wouldn't worry about the colors--I think they look fine. Any favorite locations at Yellowstone or Teton that you can recommend? I haven't been in probably 15 years. Take care.
chiaretta (2414) 2008-02-04 8:11
you shot (above all the colors and light) reminds me the works of Maxfield Parrish an American painter and illustrator. If you see his illustration for "the Knave of Hearts" you can recognize the same ligth, colors and mountains reflections...!
PeakXV (245) 2011-01-11 18:06
This has everything but a Sasquatch doing the backstroke across the lake. Reflections, lightplay, contours, snow, mist, conifers, & color. Superb!
