While visiting the Luray Caverns in virgina you go under a few Stalactite Spikes that have taken hundreds of years to grow and have been broken by foolish people.

this is a picture from underneath a stalactite formation that is trying to grow again.

you can see this by the water that is on the left hand side

Hi David.
It's really interesting to see this picture which is a good document to illustrate the silliness of some people. While saying hundred of years, I think you should have said several tenths of thousand of years (or more) given the size of these stalactites. The positive point is that we can see the beautiful internal structure of the calcite concretions.
