Photographer’s Note
Shot at Crandon Park, Key Biscayne, Florida
I shot the image using raw. Did conversion in Adobe ACR. As the lighting was poor at this hour, I used s/h tool and level adjustments. I still had too much detail in the bird so I lassoed the bird and adjusted its exposure to give a darker sillouhette image.
Finished the image with a digital velvia plug in to boost saturation and then used Fred Miranda sharpen plug in for the 20d.

Hello Michael, certainly an effective photo. It caught my eye right away. Simple, yet dramatic, and well captured. Wonderful colour, great silhouette by the bird and branches. What Photoshop CS processing did you do?

Great shot! The colours are just perfect. However, the first glance i thought the bird was some kind of pterodytcl. Although you might not have expected such a comment this photo really triggered my imagination. :)

It is beautiful. This bird is a shag (french: cormoran, latin: phalacrocorax). A bird who eat fish; Chinese are used to sample the fishes form the throw of the bird. I like the non uniformity of the orange light, as well as the detail of the tree. It s really a wonderful picture.

Hi Michael,
i like this fragile compo very much...i do not mind the fine post processing but i do appreciate every minute it took to present it the way it appears right now...excellent timing with the bird about to get into action...cheers, arturo

Great composition with the branch and position of the bird plus simple colours - the silhouetting you did works well to not distract with details. Thanks for detailing what you did as its very helpful for ideas to try out
Cheers
Ian
