Photographer’s Note
This is the square tower in Cliff Palace, Mesa Verde National Park. Cliff Palace is so named because of its size--it is the largest cliff dwelling in North America. A short, guided tour leads one down several steep flights of stairs and along a narrow path next to fairly steep mesa slopes. The guides are, by and large, very knowledgeable and interesting, and being able to stand on the ruins of these ancient dwellings is an incredible experience.
This photo was taken at about 10:30 in the morning on a cloudy day. A lot of my shots didn't look too good with the lackluster lighting, but I thought the overcast sky was great for the closer-up shots like this one. I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks.
