[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Horsetail Falls, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

Horsetail falls is one of 4 falls in a short 7-mile stretch of historic route 30 along the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge. According to the literature there are 77 falls on the Oregon side of the Columbia River. This fall is just east of Multnomah Falls, the most notable along the gorge. This day was overcast which made making waterfall images a piece of cake but the only problem was dealing with the tourists. I shot this fall from several positions, including the straight on position, but I liked the peek-a-boo look through the leaves.

While at the visitors center at Multnomah Falls I saw images taken during the fall season and have made a note to return.

Hi John,
it's so tender and romantic. Wonderful shot!
You can sharpen it a little to make the picture more clear.

This is the kind of waterfall effect I really like; I think it was you who gave me some excellent advice months ago, and I agree that overcast conditions make exposure a lot easier. I like this for the same reasons you give. The depth achieved by including the leaves is excellent as wellas being a very attractive composition.

Hi John,
You did a superb job of capturing the falls through the leaves - a very artistic presentation. Did you do a slow exposure on this, or just slow speed? I like the basic simple elements of the scene. Very effective work. Have a good week....later.
John

Hi John,
I have never been to this part of Oregon, and if we don't get confirmation from my wife's cousin about her wedding in Yorkshire in September we might go to the Pacific Northwest this summer. I am saving up my leave. Talk about an underrated photo! You have a beautiful composed image with very nice framing by the trees. The sharpness and DOF is excellent as well. Why you don't have 5-6 times the critiques is beyond me. Lovely photograph!
Stan
