Our heat wave broke just in time for the 23rd Annual San Anselmo Art and Design Festival this weekend. Unlike the Italian Street Painting Festival the focus of this event is commerce with dozens of vendors selling their wares along the length of San Anselmo Avenue.
Unfortunately for the photographer, possibilities were limited. I shot a few of the passersby and a few of the vendors but I spent most of my time around the main stage where performers were entertaining those who'd bought their food and beverages and taken refuge beneath the huge tent to get away from the sun.
This fellow was quite the performer with his powerful riffs on the guitar. If you look closely you'll see that each of his four fingers moving across the strings is covered by a large silver ring. He's also wearing a bandolier with bullets along its length. I think this fellow enjoys playing the outlaw. But the music was rocking and the crowd appreciative.
I shot this between a huge speaker on the edge of the stage at the right and some rigging on the left that held up a canopy above the performers. Hope you enjoy the scene. |

Hey you old rocker! Standing beside a speaker can be dangerous to you ears!
You don't even have to look too closely to see all those rings, and I have to laugh about the bullets actually. You caught a nice expression on his face, he's having a hard time, probably to keep up with that relaxed female bass player. I like bass guitars, they hang so low.
Nice capture, Curtis.
This is not shot at the Wine & Arts festival I guess, that's a different festival right? Nothing worth uploading from that one?
Edited: reading again, YOU were not standing between the speaker, but it was shot between the speaker and the rigging, thus forming this natural frame.
Hi Curtis - the detail on the guitarist is excellent. I love those old Gretsch guitars, to me they always seem like the perfect jazz guitar, full of warm tones & lots of bottom-end, although from his fashion style this guy looks more like a country player to me. And I like the 'lucky strike' sticker behind the pickups.
I'd like to see more of the female bass player too ;)
Good colours & nice bokeh effect on the background areas.
