While Daddy(?) was buying flowers for Mom, this little girl marched over and selected a nosegay for herself. When she presented it to Dad, he told he to put it back. She did, but she gave the flowers such a longing look, he relented. Those scenes are in the WS. Now Dad is chatting with other fathers and the princess is waiting patiently. I have a lot of pictures of fathers with their children and they always seem to be just inches away from their child.
Rafal suggested just standing still with your camera and waiting for the shot to come to you. It works amazingly well; especially when I positioned myself near a musician. People seemed to assume that I was shooting her so I'm thinking of series of street fair faces.

This is a lovely portrait, crisp and colourful. Your careful cropping have avoided some distraction from the background. I like the expression on her face. She seemed to prefer the bigger bunch of sunflowers. Excellent shot!! All the best.

Oh my dear! She looks like a doll, with her curly hair and serious looks...
Well framed by beautiful flowers and a pleasant situation report!
I'm quite stunned, you seem to photograph about everything that comes your way, and you do it all with skill!

This portrait is great, but I think that the bunch of sunflowers is too big; at first sight it distracts us from the main subject (who is the girl, of course). Anyway, this is another of your wonderful portraits.
Bom fim-de-semana / Nice weekend.

when I opened the photo, I thought seeing a Rambrand painting, it is very beautiful,

What a beauty Pat...and I cannot agree more with Pablo in saying that you seem to photograph about everything that comes your way, and you do it all with skill!
You waited for the situation & took this shot. She's a doll alright, but what's more is your uncanny ability to seize the moment. I would be proud of myself if I'm able to take a picture like this.

It's almost like a studio shot. Except for her face and the background that certaily does not look arranged.
I like smily faces, but looking at other pictures and your note, her impression makes perfect sense!

What a fantastic shot Pat; all is perfect. The composition is excellent and her wistful expression wonderful. A lovely story with the 3 photos together, but you chose the right one.

Hi Pat, An excellent portrait to the little girl. You have well captured her eyes. The sunflowers on the side made a nice color contrast and balance to her red T-shirt. The background, however, is a little distraction. It is pity that she cannot keep the bundle of flowers she made the choice. Thanks for the WS for the entire story.

What a wonderful portrait! You can come over and take a picture of my youngest and myself whenever you want.A perfect and professional image in every way in my opinion - the slightly profiled pose of the young girl with her expectant gaze, the lovely cut that includes the flowers in a way that isn't overwhelming and the amazing detail and colour.Great stuff!!!

Very nice candid photo, Pat, I like the dreamy look in her big eyes and the way in which she is positioned beside the bouquet of sunflowers. The background with dad's torso is slightly messy but in such a case you have to go with what you get, and her radiant presence easily outshines the surroundings in any case. Nice add with the WS photos to illustrate the whole episode.

Both the story and photo are simply great and they do tell a story.
I am not an expert in people or street photography (in fact... not an expert in photography in general!), but I think that what you did after Rafal's suggestion makes quite sense. The composition and exposure are brilliant, too.
These days I am after the final details of my transfer from Argentina to Brazil, so with almost no time for TE, but did not want to let this one pass; I think it is the best you have posted so far.

Sweet child and nice flowers! Good composition and colours. Well done!

Beautiful image. I like the expression on girls face and the composition with the flowers.
pboehringer (770) 2006-06-06 9:21
What a heart-braking look. What is she looking at? What feelings are running through her mind at this moment?
Your story behind the scenes tells not only the happy moment of purchasing the flowers, but also of your great sensibility to capture such nice decisive moments.
The pictures here are superb in composition, framing and colorfulness.
I will have to learn about "stand still with my camera and wait for the shot to come to me". Great lecture!

Excellent portrait, Pat. The advice of Rafal seemed to work well and I'm thinking to try the same. It may take some patience though...
I love your composition and note along with the extra sequence in ws. The blurred last long look is lovely, with that fantastic hair. Beautiful colours, excellent quality and a natural pose with an innocent child expression. Really good shot!
p.s.- the title called my attention...

Excellent candid shot of this lovely child with such a special gleem in her soulfull eyes. She reminds me of my youngest granddaughter that has the same patient determination. Wonderful note sharing your patient observations that gained you this splendid photo.

Beautiful portrait of "Daddy's Little Princess"! Being a woman is a plus for you for taking this genre of portraits. Jealous daddies will allow you to photograph thier daughters but they are very defensive when other men try to take photos. It must be a testosterone thing or something. Excellent pose and composition of this young girl!
