Location: This is another photo of Horseshoe Bend near the city of Page, Arizona.
About the Photo: I shot this photo about 45 minutes after this one. In the last shot the rocks were wet from earlier rain, but here they have already dried off. I also used a polarizer for this shot to eliminate most of the glare from the sky on the river below. As you can see there were some pretty dark rain clouds approaching. We started hiking back to the car right after I took this picture and as soon as we arrived, it started raining again really hard.
P.S. I'm not much of an Aerosmith fan, but the title seemed to fit with this plant living on the edge of this huge cliff. Here a link to my first Livin on the Edge photo.

Sharpness and DOF are very good too.
danyy (0) 2006-05-19 17:09
les couleurs sont vraiment intenses et séduisantes, elle n'ont de rivalité, que les contrastes de lumières tant au fond de la vallée que dans le ciel.
Un cadrage parfait, pov et format vertical choisis avec perspicacité.
rabdelnoor (3421) 2006-05-19 17:12
What a great POV capturing this impressive canyon. The light is just fantastic and the dark clouds made the view even more dramatic. Great.

Great shot, with rich colours. But then, using Fuji Velvia you can't go wrong. Nice dramatic cloud formations too. A good capture.

Superb view with the combination of light and shadow in the canyon, plus the dark clouds in the back ground.
All the best,
PS : I understand you wanted to frame it, but still think it is better not to use one for posting on TE.
olejator (500) 2006-05-19 17:38

^Superbe. I like the atmosphere and the colors
startacked (1355) 2006-05-19 18:00
Detail and colors are excellent again Ryan. It see that you don't use max res but ofcourse do use max file size. I think this causes the compression to be lower and leaves more detail. Do you resize first and then look at compression or first at low compression and resize accordingly? Gilbert
KevRyan (22956) 2006-05-19 18:21
A beautifully balanced image Ryan - the colour and tone are fantastic - really well captured - just so full of interest - I love the foreground detail ...all of it ..all the way through to this great sky.
best wishes Kev

A very nice picure with a good point of view and shooting angle.
Propofol (1790) 2006-05-19 19:26
Amazing spot. Good POV and well-lit, perfect exposure.
Although the foreground rock formations are stunning, it's the brooding weather in the distance that makes this photo for me.
jwmunro (286) 2006-05-19 20:19
This is a wonderful image! The dark sky contrasting with the sun lighting up a portion of the canyon and the sandstone makes the image. DOF is outstanding. Nice use of a foreground element to hold interest throughout the image. Well done.
Thanks for sharing

Great clouds for a very dramatic image, Ryan! A really nice composition with the bush and the layered rock making a fine foreground. Your framing makes the river's curve very graceful. Excellent! Regards, Ken.
clickrick (385) 2006-05-19 22:53
You have a good eye Ryan ! The curving lines of the river, the strong diagonals of the strata, the texture from the foreground bush and clouds: everything is there. I really really like this shot !
mpr (491) 2006-05-19 23:57

Wonderfull pic Ryan ! colors are very beautifull, sharpness isvery well done too. The athmosphere gived by the clouds is surnatural. Your composition points out the deepth of the place.
gregpraz (358) 2006-05-20 5:10
I nice picture again from you!!!
the foreground is wonderfull.
simonekarl (404) 2006-05-20 5:38
This a beautiful landscape, with lovely deep rich colour, and that dramatic sky. The light is fantastic.
I also like your choice to shoot the landcape vertically as it seems to add more depth into the image.
cldphoto (180) 2006-05-20 7:00
This is a winner. Great foreground sharpness really leads you into the scene. Th lighting is soft enough that there isn't too mch contrast for the film to capture. I also like that we're seeing something more than the typical view of Horsehoe Bend, which, while great, has been done and done and done.
tcht (7565) 2006-05-20 10:12
Really impressive pic. Depth and clouds are amazing and I like your angle of view putting that rivery gap curving round the centre of frame. The colours are so beautfiul too. Lovely shot!
luisafonso (862) 2006-05-20 12:17
Muito boa! A perfect 'S' shaped river, with a clear subject on the foreground and wonderful scenery on the second plan. The sky is really full of character. I like it.

Your picture has an incredible wideness and with the dark sky it looks very threateningly! But it is also a very beautiful picture wth the green river and the strange rocks! A picture which possesses really everything!
recepyuksel (17808) 2006-05-23 5:50

Elaine_Blath (8509) 2006-05-24 4:20
another beuatiful photo, so perfectly balanced...very clear quality, and warm colours...you show this breathtaking place and impressive canyon in the best way...well done!
bboss (3578) 2006-05-24 8:55
Wow, a wonderfully dramatic shot. A top composition with the s of the river and the vegetation adding some well needed foreground interest. Splendid saturated colours as well, thats the velvia effect I guess. Maybe the clouds look a touch blue - I think this may be the effect of scanning the velvia (its happened a lot on my shots at least) - but I quite like that though, it doesn't detract.
Mistral (15402) 2006-05-25 16:34
your gallery is stunning and your note are really helpful and interesting.
This is another "Perfect Image" of yours.

Waooooowww What a shot Ryan, hello ! :)))
Congratulations for this one, that mix hot and cold, smooth and hard, your tones of colors are marvelous and the result is amazing ... but you already know it due to the number of TE members that let a word on this one
Once again, all my congratulations, this one is brilliant :))

Beatiful landscape. Great colors and impressive contrast with dark clouds. Very weel composed, excellent POV, looks like postcard. Very good shot, Bravo!
With BEST Regards,
ChrisCB (14) 2006-06-02 6:48
Wow... That's graphic, amazing... The composition is very good (all is construct around the 1/3 rules : sky in the top 1/3, river in the 2/3 right, bush in the 1/3 bottom, 1/3 left...). Velvia and polarizer give those amazing satured colors. Realy a great shot. Thank you for sharing this.
Rodrigues (1035) 2006-06-02 17:15
I'm speechless. Come on, I'm a couple of weeks away from TE and you post so many wonderfull photos.
I like everything about this one, the colours, the curving river down on the bottom, the contrasting dark clouds, the details of the rock on the foreground, the bushes on the foreground (that gives a kind of distorted scale perspective), and of course, the light is fantastic...a master piece!
Keep inspiring us Ryan!
Xalkida (11744) 2006-06-06 1:20
That's a great shot. Great soft colors, very fine sharpness, great lighting and good depth. Great job. Take the 100th points! :)

The colors are truly fantastic, and well, so is everything else :D
I also deeply appreciate your notes. Lovely detail and also brilliant links to your different pictures.
Wonderful work! A pleasure to go through your pictures! TFS!

Since you know Polish since my last translation, I don't have to do it again,Ryan.(giggling).
cherryripe (21033) 2006-06-15 14:56
Stunning view of this canyon. The reds and especially the emerald greens are beautiful. I like the details of the little plant in the foreground and the dark clouds in the background.
pboehringer (770) 2006-06-21 14:17
Outstanding photo, Ryan. The invertion of light conditions - dark sky and iluminated canyon - is unique and makes it an awsome view. Using the foreground pays out well and the DOF is perfect to balance fg and bg.
benkrut (2407) 2006-06-23 20:13
I'm gonna be there next week. What I want to say here is that this is the most amazing photo of all Arizona pictures posted here, and definitely one of the best on TE.

bravo! truly wonderful. what an amazing pov and how well framed. this is inspiring work.
gramma (3519) 2006-08-11 12:30
These colors are quite simply phenomenal. Very beautiful composition also. Congratulations!
Leventissa (127) 2006-10-09 12:29
I've traced back several of yours through this shot. I'm putting you on a list to look for your shots as you post them.
For me, the most impressive (aside from the colors that others seem to love) is that you have the ability to "shoot the rocks." As a geoscientist, you have no idea how hard it is to get a non-geologist to take a decent photo that includes rocks and geomorphic images. Most focus on something that improves composition but leaves us going -- huh? Your shots combine the scene with the rocks.
plimrn (21344) 2007-01-01 20:44
That coming storm light that you captured makes this photo magic!! The framing is perfect as well. That f22 gives wonderful detail from the plant to the approaching rainstorm in the distance to the green river snaking through the deep red canyon.
Health, Love & joy in the coming year,
jocduerr (217) 2007-06-10 5:21
wonderful shot + place.
I like the dramaturgy of this photo, with its dark clouds and the sun shining through. The green tint of the water is amazing.
When I was where it was red/dirty due to the heavy thunderstorm the day before.
