Photographer's Note

We took some visitors on a 3 hour cruise around the 1,000 Islands from Gananoque, Canada and visited Boldt Castle which is just on the border between Canada and New York state. It is not really a castle, but a mansion built by George C Boldt in the late 1890's for his wife Louise. Unfortunately Louise died before it was completed and the workmen were told to drop their tools and leave the island. The house was never completed but was left as a memoriam to Louise. The part in the picture would have been the Power House and Clock Tower, meant to house the steam generators needed for the power requirements in the castle. The mansion itself stands 6 stories high, and is quite a tourist attraction in a beautiful setting.
