Photographer’s Note
A picture taken from the top of Grandfather Mountain in north western North Carolina.
This picture should be called "How soon we foget". It was taken with my first digital camera, an Olympus D300L, in 1996. It was a state of the art camera for it's time, and cost nearly $800.
Some of the camera stats are:
High quality setting: 1024 x 768 (30 exposures)
Image file size: 810K (not even 1 megapixel)
Exposure speed: ISO 100
Memory: 6 meg built-in flash memory
Apertures: f2.8,f5.6,f11
Shutter speeds: 1/8-1/500
It is amazing how far our technology has advanced in just 7 years.

To me, the first merit of this shot of Grandfather mountain is that it was taken with a "grandfather" of today's digital cameras, which gives it a high technical documentary value. Secondly, even through all the technical shortcomings of the shot it is clearly visible that this is a splendid and scenic autumn view of a beautiful landscape. It's indeed stunning how fast technology is progressing, and it would be very interesting to see a comparative picture taken from the same spot with a state of the art camera. Thanks for sharing, John.
