Day one of an Alaskan adventure
Driving an old familiar road
in amazing sunshine
after months of rain.
A bridge built in 1929
Old for California
new for many other places.

Fantastic composition, looks quite surreal. The landform, the bridge and the sea are in harmony. One of the best. Well done.
amoriconi2 (1082) 2006-03-15 1:45
really nice breathtaking panorama, colors and light are fantastic.
Probably the bridge is the less interesting object for me; the cliffs, the sea, the sky and the clouds, the green of the mounts make this photo great. Thanks for sharing.
larevedere (1259) 2006-03-15 1:47
This is a great photo! Beautiful, wonderful view... good composition...
mineelci (1535) 2006-03-15 2:02
this is really beautiful. I do like the vivid colors and composition. well done.
magost (616) 2006-03-15 2:20
Fantastic view, nice composition and spectacular colours for a great location. The coastline is very interesting but I think the bridge adds a lot to this photo!
I like the clouds on the right too...
squash110 (64) 2006-03-15 2:28
I love this picture the deep greens in the hills, the blues in the water, and the bridge to the side are amazing. Nice picture. Keep up the good work
lestans (17104) 2006-03-15 2:33
Fantastic view, Pat!! I love this place, I wish to go back there but not to drive by myself!
Great colors, great composition. Thank you!!
edal (6804) 2006-03-15 2:33
Wonderfully nice photo! I like the focus and the colors.
Patricia, you have done a great work by stithching 2 photos thus presenting the double beauty of the place. There is a small deffect of double contour of hill top - probably from the stitching. Nevertheless the result is a masterpiece.
berseph (1758) 2006-03-15 2:56
Splendid picture Patricia. I just love all of the colors and textures in the image...they are so rich with detail. Nicely captured. Amber
ALIRIZA (16423) 2006-03-15 4:21
Hi Patricia ,
Congratulations...Marvelous shot.Beautiful image with good details, nice colors(blue & green), sharpness, composition and framing you have caught. Well done...
PixelTerror (0) 2006-03-15 5:13
I like here your PoV that shows very well this dramatic coast, going for a pano was obviously the right choice and you have stitched this one well. But I think you have really saturated too much, it looks like a photo out of a Kodak compact camera and does not justice to the qualities of the D70 (this being written by a Canonist ;-) ).
Have a nice day,
lucinka (9976) 2006-03-15 6:03
Hi Pat, wow what a landscape and light!! It is absolutely stunning place, perfect tip for my list of places I want to visit :) It reminds me of a great road in Canada at Nova Scotia. Thanks for inspiration. L.
alekpet (4663) 2006-03-15 6:20
That is such a great photo, so rich in colours.
Lovely sea and lovely land, with clods on an exactly correct place.
I was somewhat dissapointed by the large post, I can see digital artefacts over there.
cherryripe (21033) 2006-03-15 6:53
Very pretty scenery and well done on the panorama.
The colours are beautiful and the lith stunning. I like how the bridge stands out so well and there is only blue sky there and how there are interesting clouds in the background. Very well composed.
jjcordier (75640) 2006-03-15 9:06
Fantastic landscape and great composition but I think you have saturated too much the colours.
toniox (878) 2006-03-15 9:25
Hi Patricia, a very impressive and colorfull picture, but I really thing it could be better in term of stitching. There are a lot of "ghost" effect at the edge of the mountain and at the left bottom corner too. There are a lot of free stitching softwares on the net, maybe you could try.
dziki_rysio_997 (425) 2006-03-15 9:28
Wonderful composition. Excellent colour tonation. Very peaceful photo. Well done!
rajhema (1871) 2006-03-15 10:39
Great colors Patricia. Very rich in natural scenary.
feather (51130) 2006-03-15 11:34
I like the strong saturation; the colours are so vivid. Excellent composition with all the diagonals -coastline, mountain ridges and bridge.
kebek (5438) 2006-03-15 12:04
Serwus Patricia !
Brilliant composition. The road starting at the bridge leads sight far on the horizon and captivates with surroundings in incredibly nice tones. In fact, colours here are too good to be true :)
Seriously, this is marvellous vista and as for the stitching - this is great Work of Yours.
Congrats and be well,
weswang (18223) 2006-03-15 12:44
Hi Patricia, This is a beautiful shot indeed. I did take a picture from the exact same location before I have my D70. The result was not close to the quality you have in this picture. An excellent PoV, nicely saturated colors and wonderful contrast. Well done.
PS: This bridge is known as Bixby Bridge.
PSS: I have listed this picture as one of my favorite.
josepmarin (57711) 2006-03-15 14:52
Good composition, and well stitched both photos.
The colors are very nice, a good contrast of the green one with the blue of the sea and of the sky.
The setting is also very good.
krysia (4216) 2006-03-15 15:35
Very impresive view thanks to the composition (beautiful white bridge), colours and sense of depth.I like it.
kmarscher (2887) 2006-03-15 21:31
Wonderful perspective and detail. The bridge adds scale to the image. Lots of eye candy here in the terrain, the water and surf, and the interesting cloud pattern. The curve of the shoreline and the leading line of the roadway toward the distant horizon make it compelling.
Cloning to stitch two photos? Interesting...
singuanti (15250) 2006-03-15 23:04
Hi Patricia. I've heard of this place before. It's as beautiful as I heard. The green looks more like Ireland than California. What a cloud and just look at the color of the ocean. This was an ideal place to go with a panorama. Awesome shot Patricia!!
Galmeida (12559) 2006-03-16 12:59
I love landscapes as you know and this is a splendid one that you capured and assembled two in one view. Excelent persective, colors, light and nature. Splendid saturated colors in a green contrast with the blue sky and sea water.
Fantastic work and my congratulations. All the Best to you.
sufi (9588) 2006-03-16 13:18
Wow... It's a wonderful photograph... The colors, light, composition and persepective are perfect... Bravo.. Superb...
xuaxo (6846) 2006-03-16 21:10
After the other critiques, I have no new words. I agree with the critiques about this fantastic composition.
I'm curious about this placename, Big Sur, because it seems a mix between English and Spanish. If so, that's hardly a surprise in Alta California ;-)
pastadog (13111) 2006-03-17 3:24
Hi Patricia, really superb work, the scene is marvelous: sea, sky&clouds, cliffs, beach, hills. I saw some trekkers posting large versions of these panoramic stitches, and they are very impressive, maybe it'd be nice to see yours in large version too. Wonderful, thanks so much! Daniel
rosaline (0) 2006-03-17 4:36
This is an excellent photo with good composition. The landscape leads into the distance very well. The cloud formation is pure magic. Well done and well seen. Would be interested to know if you saturated the colours as they are quite strong. But the impact is fantastic.
fabio_ts (13694) 2006-03-17 5:10

Just caught up with this one and I'm glad I did. The combination of scenery and superb light make this quite a shot, Pat. Very well composed and great colours. A beauty - well done!
aznegrao (10316) 2006-03-17 12:44
Fantastic view Patricia!!
Muito interessante essa imagem, as texturas, contrastes e a posição do motivo no quadro são fortes. Gosto da atmosfera que a imagem transmite.
Henryk_Bilor (20799) 2006-03-18 17:23
Fabulous picture. So fantastic capture and colours. Just amazing. Luck that I don`t know more words of delight ;).
nwoehnl (122) 2006-03-19 9:29
This is a quite amazing photo, Patricia. Excellent showing of the way in which the coastal highway meanders along the scenery. The bridge makes a fine foreground interest, and the 2:1 division of the frame between land vs sea works out quite well, too. Nice choice of the panoramic format, and an impressive depth all the way back. Yes you did push the saturation button quite a bit, but still in a way that does justice to the grand scenery. I like this one.
ChrisJ (96654) 2006-03-20 3:41
A fantastic pov, with marvellous, saturated colors. Wonderful sharpness, contrast, & graphism. The polarizer has done its job.
drago (4826) 2006-03-20 11:59
Hi Pat,this is a fantastic panoramic picture-even if it is of two only pictures-.The contrast between green and blue is amazing!
isabela_sor (47609) 2006-03-20 15:08
Amazing colors and textures in the image, great details! In my favorites, my dear Patricia
mpr (491) 2006-03-26 9:39
Nice capture of beautiful colors. This was a perfect time to be there. I like how the shot makes me follow it from left to right; taking the bridge, and following the cliffs to the ocean. Well done.
tootsie (400) 2006-04-01 10:38
thanks for your note. was out of commission on TE while i moved to NY and got set up. it's good to be back on. hope you're well! this picture is fantastic - beautiful compo and colors. and how lucky for you to catch it on such a beautiful day - no fog!!
Hoos (134) 2006-04-02 1:18
Hi Pati! Nice work you really put it in the right place! It’s difficult to find the limit, the photo looks like a movie scene, its seems like really great place, well done!! Juan Jose
photofarm (468) 2006-04-11 3:17
81 points are few for this image...I think it could be on a wall of my room
open spaces, the sea without end and the bridge...all with superb colors!
good work stitching 2 images and great detail!
well done, it's one of my favourites
ozgur (191) 2006-04-18 15:14
fabulous shot, colors and light. congratulations..
Beatka (107) 2006-04-25 15:51
Marvellous colours, contrasts !! I really adore this photo!!
banyanman (7789) 2006-05-09 10:42
What a beautiful panorama, Pat - it looks like one of those extra long postcards that you can buy in some souvenir shops. I see you pushed your curves adjustment to the limit, but I think you get away with it because the result is very impressive. Good job of stitching. I drove this road many years ago without a camera - how I wish I had one with me! Cheers . . . David
Angshu (55401) 2006-05-26 3:34
Excellent perspective here Pat..& what wonderful colours. The blues of the sky & the sea is awesome as is the green.I like the way the bridge fits into the scene in a diagonal
gebala (0) 2006-06-12 3:47

Manamo (3676) 2006-08-01 10:35
When I read Jack Kerouac's or Ginsberg,s books and when they were describing that region, I was always amazed how the authors were able in priming my imagination...I had never looked for pictures of it. Now I see how they succeeded doing so, it is so beautiful!! And you capture it so perfectly!! I like how you exaggerated the saturation, it was a good choice in my opinion here. It is just perfect!!
Or almost, the stitching is very well done, except in the sky where we can see it, but it is so barely perceptible...
sameeras (49) 2006-09-09 3:20
beautiful picture ...
but i think the colors are a shade too bright
Emiel_Skyfreak (3002) 2006-10-28 23:06
Beautiful. Great detailed coastline with wonderful colours. That bridge is a nice human influence, carefully positioned in the frame.
Maybe the saturation is a little too strong.
The stitching seems fine on this small version.
On the far left side the cloning? or stitching is evident. The whole left ~8mm seems cloned, 4 times. Everything repeats there. I should crop it off if I we're you.
Neverthless thanks for sharing the beautiful view.
jazu (415) 2007-01-12 1:58
This photo is a masterpiece. Great colors, wonderful composition. You got lucky with these magnificent clouds.
ahmetgedikli (25464) 2007-01-12 2:05
A very beautiful shot! Excellent colours, superb light and very good point of view.
Have a nice day.
gunbud (34066) 2007-03-05 21:19
Don't know how I missed this one till now. The mountains are so green it could be Ireland if not for the the brillant blue skies. The colors are just great! and your POV brings us along the road as far as it goes without losing any of the ocean or stunning cliffs.
paura (47166) 2007-03-15 15:57
Very nice composition here! The point of view is interesting. Well done.
vero07 (1781) 2007-05-15 10:58
I like the strong colours of this wonderful landscape.
I think it's a great view!
Perfect POV and TFS.
ViktorVaughn (1521) 2007-07-11 20:55
beautiful photo. Your colours of this are absolutely spectacular. California...one state I would love to visit. So many points already, I'll just say thanks for posting such a lovely photo.
kwazireal (181) 2008-03-09 3:53
This is a very interesting image, the thumbnail certainly invites opening to enjoy it. Upon opening, the color is eye-catching, and the viewer is immediately taken in by the breadth of the scene and the exceptionally fine, crisp, clear air. This image makes a great initial impact.
The problems I have with this are the following, however:
1. The Photographer's note indicates specifically that PP included stitching and curve adjustment. Looking at the image indicates that is probably not the whole truth, and subsequent critiques and responses bare out that assumption.
2. The color is significantly over-saturated; the sky has this deep dark blue area in the middle which is inconsistent with the balance of the scene.
3. The left side of the image has poorly executed cloning, meaning, you can see 2x and 3x of most of the features along the left edge of the frame. Being on the far edge of the picture, these are not related to stitching.
4. Opening the image in PS (I attempted to correct stitching in a WS, but gave-up) the stitch line is clearly visible in the sky and near the top of the mountains, and the mountain ridge is not properly aligned to the left of the stitch line. There is a partial ghost image.
It is commendable to experiment with stitching. When early attempts fail, it may be better to recognize that and try again with a different image...rather than post a very nice looking image which contains significant defects.
Emile (20350) 2008-07-14 21:43
When I open the TE page in my computer I saw this picture of yours, is near the place that Henk and I and possible many more TE photographers took a shot of the famous bridge, with the exception that maybe your shot is a little bit over saturate I found your shot a very good one. Well done.
coco (30439) 2009-02-23 8:50
Excellent light and colours for this landscape. The composition and the panoramic view is very nice too.
fds (8102) 2011-02-12 8:11
