Photographer’s Note

Lake Tahoe is the jewel of the Sierra, California. Driving mile after mile, it suddenly appears with its characteristic blue waterline and often a clear view of the mountains at the horizon.

Originally Washoe Indians lived on this land.

It more than frequently visited by tourists and local residents practising there sports (sailing, skiing) in this area and at the same time enjoying the fresh mountain air.

Sad to say, the truth is different when you are scratching the surface a little. The area is highly polluted (eg. contamination of the drinking water from gasoline), and there are scientists saying, that the clarity of the lake would be irreversible after a decade, if nothing is done now.
Fortunately, California and Nevada have announced their plans to restore the lake and it’s surroundings.
Hopefully it is not too late.

I have been here some times now, and this view of Tahoe Lake with the old castle ruin situated on the small island is characteristic, and you will find it appearing in many books, webpages, etc. describing this place. It is very breathtaking!

I certainly do hope there is a happy future for this place.
