Photographer’s Note

Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County, California.
In Europe we think about Los Angeles and California as beach and surf, sun and sand. Therefore, I was kind of surprised to find snow-covered mountains and ski resorts rather near from Downtown LA and its neighboring beaches.
This is Angeles National Forest, part of San Gabriel Mountains, north of Los Angeles. The shot was not far from the Mountain High winter resort, on Angeles Crest Highway (California State Route 2) [_*_].
Approximate location (rough guess) of this shot: 34.3584454, -117.7982533.

Hi Francisco,
I like the way your composition looks up the snow-crusted tree against the cloudy sky. That little bit of blue in the sky adds a lot to the image.

That's what we love about Southern California; live in the mild beach climate but the snowy mountains are nearby.

Yup, definitely an interesting shot... never would imagine there'd be snow in California, apart of the Sierra Nevada...

About the composition: It looks like it has a tilt to the right, which surely comes through the position you were taking the photo from, likely because of trying to get everything in... maybe another POV would have been better

Hi Francisco!

I like these enormous snow covered trees. The sky is also fascinating and it's really strange to see that winter landscape in California, it's very unusual.
About the composition: i would have cut the bottom of the photo, but just a little bit.

Francisco,
I didn't see this shot earlier and I'm glad that you directed my attention to it. It really deserves a second look! Such a view is not surprising to me, but I agree that probably most of the TE members would not associate this image with LA.
2 weeks ago I arrived at LAX coming from Europe and all the mountains around LA were looking like this. It was a most beautiful sight from the plane.
