Photographer’s Note
This photo is of the La Brea tar pits in Los Angeles, California. The tar pits are located right on Wilshire Blvd. right in the middle of Americas 2nd largest city. Oil(tar) still bulbles up to this day. Back before People and skyscrapers were around, many animals would get stuck in the tar and become preserved. A whole collection of extinct animals are on display at the museum besides the pits. It is amazing to smell the tar and be right on a major road looking down ar a large tar pit.

I'm gonna guess and say this was scanned from a print, because it looks much like some of my older photos; I won't pick on the image quality. I think that your framing of this was not bad, but think that it would be improved if you had caught the full crown of the tree.

I think this is appropriate for trekearth.
It's interesting that they would put these elephants beside a tar pit when the story you tell makes me sad for the animals.
Nice bright day eh?

Hello Seth,
I enjoyed your excellent explanation of what you have in the photo, but thought that perhaps it would have better composition if it were cropped to the elephants and their reflections. So I did a WS to see what it would look like. I hope you don't mind.
Lois
