[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my next one in this short series at Heceta Head Lighthouse. In my previous post you could see this from the hills in the distance. You may notice the flag being at half-staff. That would be because when I was there, in early September US Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist had just passed away. He served 7 presidents starting with Nixon.

I am going to upload a workshop to show Heceta Head in detail. Just down the coast there is a sea lion cave and I had cranked my ISO up to 1250 when I was underground. But then I forgot to go back to normal so I had my ISO way too high. Fortunately I didn't underexpose this too much so it didn't become too much of an issue. I wish my camera told me what ISO I was set at in my viewfinder like the new Nikon D200 does.

Hand-held shot: ISO 1250 and 1/1250th second shutter speed. I hate when I do that.

Hi Mr. Steve, I made this kind of mistake many times. When I got a chance, I'd always trying to go back to retake a few shots. A Nikon D200 can see the ISO value from view finder? This is a good feature to have.
I don’t see any defect from this ISO 1250 picture. I guess that you will see the noise from your original sized picture. Nice composition to include the visit center with the layers of mountain ridge view in the background. I am looking forward to see the rest of the series. Excellent sharpness and nice contrast with this against the light shot. Well done.

Interesting composition. Great colors and well done...

Regards, Dragan

Stephen you sure framed this one in nicely. I really like how the picket fence fills the frame. Very nicely done. When I was a young little laddie I lived in a house like this...minus the fence. A very good shot!

Hi Stephen. I like a lot your framing and POV here. The fence makes me cross the whole picture, where my sight finally finished on the house. Good composition.

Hola Stephen.
Well I can tell you that the ISO 1250 worked very well here, this is a very good shot. The fence give a nice perspective and the foggy mountains give a great DOF and depth effect.
Congratulation and TFS.

Bonjour Stephen,
but it's so clear!? Maybe you will have problem if you want to make a big poster, but here, it's much more than OK.
And th e shot speaks by itself. Very good compo. Congratulations!

Hi Stephen
white fencing ,the misty hill in background add to beauty of the head visitor centre.Informative note. You have nicely explained reason for ISO 1250 .

Bonjour Stephen,
Reegards.
Daniel./

Hi Stephen

A good daily life shot, with excellent sharpness, & a good pov. The note explains why the flag is at 1/2 mast. Well done!

Hi Steve,
Somehow your wording leads me to think you're already dreaming about the D200...
That being said, the good old D70 does not perform that bad when it comes to noise handling, but maybe you noise cleaned that one as it seems to me details have been washed out in the green area and on the house. The PoV and idea behind the composition are fine BTW, the house is well off centered and leaves the view to the hilly background open, and the double fence perspective is a strong leading feature. Before the D200 you might consider investing in a WA that would have served you well in this view.
Oh, and don't be too angry against yourself, everybody has done something like that at some point in time ;-)
Have a nice week end,
JEan-Yves

If you had kept quite and didn't include the shutter speed I don't think anyone would have noticed! No evidence of noise!
Well composed from the corner of the fence. I like the misty hills behind.

very nice angle, Steve
the fence really cool, excellent composition
very good contrast of colors
high ISO ? still very good

Hi Stephen - I really like the wide angle perspective, the half staff flag is interesting as well as the strong shadows cast under a seemingly overcast sky.

Great wide angle shot! Great idea to use the fence the way you did and I like the angle too. The positioning of the house is good, over on the edge of the frame, giving this a dynamic kind of look. I see that you are thinking about the D200 - me too, it looks pretty nice. Great work!

Quite a wide range you got at 18mm from your angle, Steve, at first glance this looks more like a 12 or 14mm shot. Good use of the fence for the leading lines and the perspective support, and nice effect at the back with the layered hills fading into the distance. We've all had our ISO bloopers one day or another but in this one the damage, if any, is very limited.

Hej Stephen,
Good photo, you placed that building well in the composition and I like the use of the fence in front too. Well done.
Hilsner,
Lars

Hi Stephen,
What a lovely composition. The beautiful geometry of the fence combine with the grey silhouette of the mountain and the well chosen place of this nice white house. Serving 7 presidents is quit a performance.
Groet Rob

Hi Stephen,
Interesting composition and POV by letting the corner of the fence almost jutting out of the frame. I love the perspective effect here. The flag at half mast gives a special meaning to the scene and the visitor's centre is set in such lovely background. I usually face this same problem except that mine are mostly beyond repair. Well done!! Have a nice weekend ahead.

Hi Steven,
It's admirable, how well you use quite bad weather in both your last pictures. The misty hills make a perfect background for the house here -- they work similarly like low DoF and stress the main subject. Inclusion of the fence in foreground was a clever idea too -- the resulting composition is quite interesting. Well done.

Thanks,
Marek

Bonjour Stephen,
Amitiés.

Hi Stephen,
Again a nice photo. Now we see the house from a smaller distance. I like the fence around it the house, the layers of the hills and the background and the way the light shines on (or: through) the flag.

Stef

Hi Stephen,
A well composed shot taken from a superb perspective. The corner post of the fence is an ideal vantage point for the eye to follow in two directions. The misty look in the background is alluring, while contrasting with the clear foreground. Quite a coup to capture the flag at half-mast, as 99% of all the other shots will not have this distinctive! Very appealing, Steve. Its definitely a keeper.

Hi Stephen,
A typical house out of year 1950 or older, but always very pleasant for looking, I really like how the picket fence fills the frame.
Also the fence give a nice perspective and the foggy mountains give a great DOF and depth effect.
Very well done,
John.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for your coments and really I corrected now the filter in the information guidelines because was wrong and also because in Azores I used only the Polarizer in this Camera and no filters in the C-770UZ. One more time, thanks for your attention and eye technical point of view and also my work. I like very much your point of view, perspective and angle approach. Possible I decreased one point the Gamma light and increased the Hue a little for two points. But here and what I say is my experience with different software. Really is a great composition with a great capture, with a splendid enquadrement by the rules and with a 3D approach view. Very well seen and done. TFS for shraring and your friendly approach and view.

Have a nice week and the best to you and your attention.

Hi Stephen.
Good composition and light. Technically is good, but I cannot say what is interesting in the photo.
Sorry.

Regards.

This is a very dynamic view, Stephen. The point of view here adds drama and interest to the photo! Well composed and nicely handled exposure, too.

Hi Stephen
A good angle shot. The beautiful surrounding of the house is well balanced. Except that you needed some activity around the frontyard.
I like the mountain at the rear with its mist covering the peaks.
Well done, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,
great depth with this fence in your shot, good idea for this original frame.

Hi Steve,
a super wide angle shot... wow, look at that scenery in the background these people have. just amazing.
The exposure looks just fine. I like it.
cheers,
Behrang

hi Stephen
misty background that goes well with the song playing on my radio.(Buddy Guy ain't no sunshine)
Good composition, you decided to frame on the outside of the fence, not a bad idea, you could have move forward and eliminate the front fence, but at the same time eliminating the foreground interest.
Have a good evening
Charles
